The country was sprinkled with good little cafés with simple and high-quality dishes. Wife and I had one day on our own and decided to go searching for one of those old style cafés - maybe we could find one... We set out from Evreux at 10 a.m. and went south. GPS switched off. We found little villages with cafés and restaurants - all closed. But villages and countryside still picturesque and still as we remembered it from earlier days. Our search was finally successful. In Bueil, we found le Café du Centre. Parking space in the yard and entry through the kitchen. Nice and friendly people and an ambiance from the temps perdues. No menu - just the Plat du Jour. We were served a sliced tomato with a perfect vinaigrette, some onion and parsley. After that an entrecôte with flageolets and pommes vapeur. Meat was perfect and the veggies were perfect - but we had definitely not expected THAT combination. Cheese (Camembert and Carré de l'Est) just right and after that a small expresso. Wine and local cider (this is Normandy). A nice chat with a local guy made the visit take some time, but heck - we had the day off and enjoyed the whole stay at the Café du Centre.Cost for the meal was a measly 26 Euro, including wine/cider and everything. You can't beat that. This is a place we would like to have in our village. And we will go there again whenever we get to Normandy.
Was soll man sagen?
What to say, a good welcome, and a burgundy beef, who brought me back to age, or, my grandmother was doing are famous burgundy beef on his old wood cook. In a word, a culinary distillation. The resistance dish and unique, although the lack of choice dissuade some, the proposed quality makes it forget quickly. I strongly advise. Simple without cracks, and quality and there, for a more than reasonable price
