Near the old town, looking for a place to eat something typical, we proposed this restaurant by a local friend. Old style, wood everywhere in place, looks like a tavern and you have the perception that you are going to crowd over... kozy decorations and such. We ordered crispy chicken crochets and Bulse, a kind of broken egg with meat as appetizers, then soups: amazing both the Ciorba de burta and the taranesca one, definitely what we enjoyed most. Last but not least to share a huge mixed meat plate, with ribs, sausage, pork and potatoes. Too much food we couldn't even finish it because portions are really big. Water, beer and coffee, a total of 490 Ron (25 Euros)
I came here a few times. Always enjoyed, food is good, service is very good, garden is very nice, quiet place in the center of town, question!
We were 2 adults and 2 children. Service was slow but we thought no problem, new country and maybe things are done differently here in Romania. We waited 90minutes and finally our meals arrived (pork knuckle, vinegar cabbage and tough meat for my husband ...awful! Beetroot and goats cheese salad for myself which I ended up having to ask to take away. Ended up being raw beetroot sticks, a few walnuts, some mint leaves and a couple rounds of goats cheese. No dressing no anything. Boring tasteless salad however not the children’s meals (2 burgers . We wait and still the children’s burgers do not materialise. When I ask where they are we are told they have not been ordered. So we ask for the bill and they charge us for the bread, the butter the water everything! Which under any other circumstances I would happily pay for but it is now late at night and I have two small children I need to feed somewhere else! I would have at least expected the bread, butter (yes butter you pay for apparently! and water to be taken off the bill or some small gesture or apology but nothing. I speak to the manager who basically says ‘did the food on the bill arrive at the table? Yes? Well you need to pay for it!”. When I explain that we have been waiting all this time and the children’s meals have not arrived or been ordered and do they not think some kind of apology by way of a small discount on the bill might be appropriate I get a shrug of the shoulders and a no. If you are Romanian then perhaps you are treated differently but if you are a tourist then avoid like the plague. And they wonder why România and Romanians are tarred with the brush that they are. We came here with an open mind and enjoyed the wonderful architecture and things to see. But the hospitality forget it!
I had a burger and my mother had vegetable soup. It was all very nice apart from the strange crisp things served with the burger that tasted burnt! The burger was lovely though, and the waiter very attentive.
