Casa Rodriguez - Bryan

I've developed a routine of visiting there for lunch on Mondays to enjoy the fajitas for one special. I often eat my fill and take some extra home with me. I really appreciate that they offer black beans. The food consistently arrives hot and fresh.

I celebrated my birthday here and really enjoyed the staff singing "Happy Birthday" for me! My tamale dinner was delicious, and I loved the birthday surprise with a candle. However, our meals for our table of eight were not served simultaneously—half of us had to wait for our food, and one order was initially wrong, but it was quickly corrected. Aside from that, we enjoyed our meals and had a wonderful time.

I ordered the El Memo enchiladas and a beef chalupa. The serving sizes were generous, and the beef chalupa was outstanding. The refried beans were tasty, but unfortunately, the rice was quite dry. The corn tortillas in the enchiladas were also a bit dry, and the chili con carne topping had an odd flavor. There was no salsa served with the meal. Luckily, a dollop of guacamole and sour cream on the chalupa helped to add some moisture to the dry rice and masked the unusual taste of the enchiladas. Overall, this was my first and last visit.

After a long break from Casa Rodriguez our family decided to give it another shot. We had seen so many good looking things online. Unfortunately it was still lack luster. The restaurant wasn?t super busy and our order took so long that people that got there after us were leaving before us. We asked for salt for our chips, it never came. I asked about what drink the waitress recommended and she recommended the margarita which sounded great, it wasn?t until after it got to our table I realized that everyone else in the restaurant with a margarita had one that was way larger then mine. It would have been nice to know if there were multiple size options. When our food came I had the wrong kind of beans and they didn?t have any knives available, which made it so I couldn?t eat because my meal required a knife. Once the correct things came(including the knife) we were asked if we needed anything else and when we said ?no? our waitress didn?t come back until our meal was finished. For us that meant no way to ask for refills on drinks or the ability to ask for anything else. We considered ordering dessert but it took so long for our waitress to come back that we decided it wasn?t worth it to sit and wait an extra 30 minutes. Overall the food was decent but nothing super fantastic and the service was just as it was the last time we ate there. None of the things we experienced were a big deal but they all built on each other and made it into a not so great experience. If you have an hour and a half or two to eat a meal then maybe this is the right stop for you. I really wanted to enjoy the experience and hoped that our last visit was just a fluke, but that doesn?t seem to be the case.

Hey everyone! If you are looking for authentic home made from scratch mexican food then Casa Rodriguez in downtown Bryan is a must go!! Casa Rodriguez is one of the best mexican restaurants in the area. They are family owned so they know a thing or two about authenticity and great customer service! The food is fantastic! I have been here several times and I am always met with prompt and friendly service. The atmosphere here is laid back and very comfortable. I highly recommend visiting Casa Rodriguez as soon as you can. HUGE THUMBS UP!
