Although there is usually an Indian buffet available, I almost always order my favourite menu item - cashmere chicken. Chicken thighs covered in a buttery cream sauce that includes bits of cashews and raisins. There's nothing better!!!The decor is standard "roadside diner" but the service and food are both excellent. I highly recommend that you stop by if you have a craving for tasty, authentic Indian cuisine or just want a good ol' burger and fries
The Indian food here is amazing. The Canadian is pretty good too! An unexpected little Indian restaurant in the middle a tiny town. Very friendly staff! :)
We were driving from toronto to thunder bay and stopped in sudbury to see friends. When we were leaving they insisted wr stop in bruce mines to try this indian food at the esso station RIGHT off the transcan hwy. So we did. And are we ever glad we did. We had delicious authentic butter chicken, panak panner (spinach and indian cheese), rice and naan. We started with the channa marsala simosas (simosas covered with marsala sauce with chickpeas) and they were excellent. We asked for "hot" instead of mild or medium for everything and it was nice and hot but we could have handled more. After being in halifax and having a hard time finding food like this i would say its comparable to any major city centre and the service was good. Its a little retro gas station diner in remote northern ontario so dont expect pretentious decor but if you want to warm your soul in the middle of a canadian winter on the long drive to thunder bay....taste of little india will not disappoint. Thanks to them. We needed that!!
This little unassuming restaurant is potentially a must on my list of dinning establishments. Nothing special about the decor, very average for a roadside stop. It is acceptably clean and the service is quick, courteous and friendly. What makes this place special for me is the care and concern in providing authentic Indian food. When my wife and I inquired about the ingredients used in the dishes we hoped to try, we were pleasantly surprised. The owner / chef came to our table to answer our questions and make suggestions in order to help us make our selections. The meals were prepared quickly, and served hot ready to be enjoyed.Good food, nice presentation (not fancy), polite service, in a friendly small town atmosphere. This is not fine dinning! What it is however, is a good honest meal, properly cooked and served in a timely fashion. Well spiced and flavourful.Well worth the stop for me..............you need to decide for yourself.
We are still a bit surprised at how good our dinner was at such an unlikely spot - the gas station!!!!The atmosphere isn't little India but it is clean and the staff and cook were very friendly. We started with the samosas which were ok but definitely could have used a bit more spices. We had butter chicken, korma, vindaloo, ghobi bharji and a vegetable makhani. All dishes came with basmati rice and naan bread (store bought but still ok). The sauces were all very good with vindaloo being our least favourite but that's just us. We ordered everything as medium and half of us thought it was fairly mild and the others thought it was properly rated as medium. Again... everyone to their own taste. This was truly a surpise good find - the only thing that would have made it even better was a Kingfisher or Heinekin!!
