Underwood's Cafeteria - Brownwood

This restaurant is amazing! We decided to choose this spot over the chain restaurants on our way back to Houston, and it did not let us down. The food and service are outstanding. I have to highlight that the service goes above and beyond. The apple cobbler is superb and perfectly balanced in sweetness, and the homemade whipped cream was a delightful addition.

This is a fantastic spot to enjoy BBQ and an abundance of delicious sides. I've spent many summers in Brownwood and never passed up the opportunity to dine at Underwoods. You know exactly what to expect: excellent food and outstanding service. Personally, I favored the beef, but you really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. The selection of sides is impressive, ranging from mashed potatoes to green beans and cobbler. And don’t forget to try the rolls! If you’re hungry, definitely drop by and you’ll leave feeling satisfied and happy.

If you enjoy cafeteria-style food, this place is definitely for you. It has all the elements you would expect from that setting. While the chicken fried steak doesn't seem to be homemade, it still tasted quite good. It resembles a buffet, but you do pay different prices for the meat options. The jalapeño sausage was really spicy. However, the service was friendly, and we had a great time overall.

If you're looking for some good old-fashioned cooking in a family-friendly atmosphere, Underwood's Cafeteria is the place for you. The BBQ is especially delicious, and the portions are generous. The staff is friendly and helpful, and they'll be sure tohook you up with some whipped cream on your cobbler if you just ask. Plus, the hot rolls are unlimited and absolutely delicious.Prices are surprisingly reasonable, making Underwood's a great option for everyone!

After hearing about this place for years anytime the city of Brownwood was brought up, we finally were able to check it out on our way through town...and it was totally worth it! First off, the barbeque is some of the best around. Second, the sides areincluded with the price of your meat. Choose wisely though and don't take more than you need, as greed is a sin. Thirdly, thestaff will offer you up some whipped cream for your cobbler. Truly, icing on the cake. Come check this place out if you haven'talready!
