Son had the mozzarella triangles which he said were OK. My other son had the fried artichokes which he said was a big disappointment. I started off with the fried calamari which was excellent but added the peppers for $4 which was ridiculous for 4 or 5 slices of peppers. One son's entree was the chicken parm over penni which he enjoyed. Other son had the chicken Del Primo, chicken and sausage over mashed potatoes with broccoli Rabe and peppers which he said was very good. Wife had the short ribs which she said was like a goulash over mashed potatoes which she did not care for said it was far tooo peppery. I had the cioppino which is some mussels, clams, shrimps and a nice white fish. Added fettuccine for $5 which was very good. Dessert had a piece of cheesecake which was your everyday normal cheesecake, and what they called chocolate lava cake which was beyond disappointment. Nice atmosphere, good service and if we go back know what we will not order.
My husband and I wanted to try a new restaurant and had dinner here on a Friday night a couple of weeks ago. The food was very good and server, Marco, very attentive even though it was bustling. My husband and I shared the mussels appetizer and we both had the veal and must say it was very tender. As one other reviewer commented, the room is very large, like a cafeteria, which made it noisy . There was no cozy feel to the room. I'm sure we will return in the future.
Exceptional dinner from friendly, knowledgeable people. The summer corn and tomato salad was a refreshing change from what this could have been. The pollo martini was superb but was just a teeny bit too lemony.. ask 'em to dial back the lemon just a pinch and you will LOVE this dish. Try the arancini. You might want to make a meal out of these little rice balls stuffed with sausage mozzarella served with tomato sauce. Also exceptional: Summer risotto with roasted red pepper pesto, grilled asparagus, shaved zucchini. Who knew you could find exceptional Italian food (as good as any you found find in NYC) and equally superb service way out in Brookfield, CT?
Gave it a try with another couple. Our meals were tasty, but not something to rave over. Dessert was good though. Service was friendly but slow, with a couple forgotten drink orders. I think what kind of detracted from the experience was the lack of ambiance. It felt kind of like being in a cafeteria noisy and echo ey. Won't be in a rush to return, there are plenty of better options in the greater Danbury area.
Del Primo, we thought at first, was yet another Italian restaurant in this area. But it has become a favorite of ours, because the menu offers a good variety including really nice salads. The fish and meat that comes with the salads is nicely cooked and the quality of ingredients really shows. The outside seating is comfortably distanced. Not a traditional menu, which I like. Service has been good.
