My wife and I stopped here for lunch while driving from Syracuse, NY to Montreal, QC. It was busy and crowded. I think it is a popular spot for locals. My wife ordered a chicken sandwich and I ordered a club wrap. Both came with a choice of sides. My wife ordered green beans and I ordered poutine. The chicken sandwich was an open face sandwich covered with gravy, but it wasn't advertised that way in the menu. My wife thought the green beans and the sandwich were very good, but her side salad was made with browning lettuce and wasn't very tasty. My wrap was bland. The poutine was terrible. The gravy was of no particular taste other than salty. The fries were ones you get frozen in a bag, then cook. The dish was so unappealing, I didn't try putting again the entire trip.
The service at the pick up counter was very poor. My wife and I have been loyal customers of this restaurant for over twenty years. The owner and his wife are friendly, and when dining in, the food and service are always good and consistent. However, our experience at the pick up counter today was disappointing. We placed our order and specifically asked for cutlery, salt, and plenty of napkins. Unfortunately, when we got back to our hotel, we realized that there was no salt, no napkins, and no cutlery. If we had gone back to the restaurant, our food would have been cold. This is not the first time they have made mistakes at the pick up counter, and it seems to be a case of the staff not listening or simply forgetting. This is very frustrating and needs to be addressed by management.
I ordered a full rack of bbq BACK RIBS for $28+ tax (NOT CHEAP) and when my order arrives I see they have sent me SIDE RIBS. Now I order the back ribs at least once a month and have ordered the side ribs before as well but don't like them due to their flat nature, the rib tips, cartilage and extra fat as compared to the curved, leaner back rib which does not have rib tips or cartilage. So I really know my rib cuts and the differences between them, especially from Swiss Chalet. So I tell the owner that they sent the wrong ribs and he argues with me saying the cook says otherwise. I explain to him how the ribs he sent me are clearly side ribs, to come get them so he can see for himself and he argues with me saying the flat ribs with fat, rib tips and cartilage are back ribs lmao. I had to become really upset with him before he offered to send me the correct order.
Went last night, and inquired about a two-for-one special. I was told there were none ongoing, so ordered. When I got home, I found an email pitching that exact special. Why didn’t staff know what head office had promoted?
