Wood fired pizza oven...Pizza by the slice or whole pie. Food was GREAT! Must try when in the city near Rikers.
My bias for Chicago Tavern Style pizza is hard to overcome. But here we are. Antonio has a tremendous passion for his customers, his food, and it's authentic/ fresh ingredients. This is one of the best pizzas I've ever had! It definitely changed my opinion of New York Pizza after being very underwhelmed by one of the most famous pizza places in town. I look forward to going back!
Long overdue review for a spot I went to months ago in Astoria with a friend. I will preface this in that it is a trek to get out here if you don't own a car and/or are afraid of the bus. Let's just say I got my steps in on this day. It's kind of near Laguardia Airport and is closer to that proximity wise than Astoria. I didn't even know Astoria Heights is a section and a thing but here we are and every neighborhood needs a good restaurant and Piu Bella is pretty extraordinary. The restaurant in itself is beautiful with a rose flower wall, black leather booths, and Italian pictures and faire in the back. Out of the cocktails I got to try a Stoli Esspressotini, the Lychee Gin Gimlet, The Vedova (Patron Blanco, blackberries, honey Syrup, Rosemary Sprig that came served in a freaking glass bird's butt), and the Rosemary smoked old fashioned. Most of these were shared. I didn't personally consume all of these in one sitting. Nervous laughter. Each drink was thoughtful and beautifully done. If you want a drink and a show get the smoked old fashioned. The way they smoke it is awesome. Personal favorite was probably oddly the Vedova and that's surprising because I don't like tequila that much. Appetizers we shared were the burrata with prosciutto and the buffalo chicken egg rolls. Burrata was insanely delicious and hard to mess up and the egg rolls were surprisingly so good and unique. A must order. My friend went off menu kind of with ordering her entree and did kind of a fettuccine with shrimp in alfredo sauce thing and I got the gnocchi trio. It didn't blow me away and maybe I should have ordered something else. But each of the sauces were very tasty. Weirdly really liked the mushroom sauce. Finished off with a very good slice of tiramisu. Everything from start to finish was fantastic. I highly recommend if you randomly venture out here or are somehow staying at an airport hotel or have time to kill at the airport screw the terminal food and come here.
This is by far my favorite Italian restaurant! I travel a good 30-45 minutes just to eat here! All ingredients are high quality; the flour for the pizza dough is imported from Italy and you can definitely taste the authenticity in each bite. The main courses are delicious as well. The best chicken piccata, eggplant parm and penne alla vodka in any Italian restaurant that I know of! Staff is super friendly and accommodating to all customers. The ambiance is also a vibe!
