Decent trendy Indian restaurant in East Village with a lively and cozy environment. I ordered the Kothu Parata $17), which was a stir fried veggie dish can add meat too- I added ground beef for $3) and was decent. The shredded flatbread bits in there were good. The ground beef actually tasted a bit like lamb. This dish was a solid portion size. It was moderately spicy depending on your spice tolerance, although there were no warnings of spice level on the menu- they definitely should consider adding spice levels to better inform the customers. The dish was also a bit too oily. The Mango Lassi $6) was very good- very sweet which makes me think they might've added some sugar/sweetener. It was also quite thick with the yogurt, which I liked. They added a bit of berry jam which gave it a nice design against the glass and also a bit of additional flavor/sweetness. The place itself is a bit small with an atmosphere that is cozy and lively. There is trendy Indian decor around and a Bollywood movie being shown against the wall. It was pretty busy on a weekend night. The staff are pretty friendly but not very attentive they didn't check in on us at all during the meal). The service speed was a bit slow. Overall, Khiladi is a decent option for Indian food in the East Village, but there are a few minor points for improvement. The food is good but not great, and same with the service. Not a bad option I would give 3.5 stars if I could), but also not quite as good as the average Yelp rating suggests.
Perfect spot to try out if you're not looking to wait long to get seated. The service is great and the food does not disappoint. We LOVED the Chicken Tikka Masala. Would definitely recommend trying this place out if you haven't already!!
I highly recommend Khiladi. Really great food, excellent service. A great mix of Southern and Northen cuisine. The shishito peppers were awesome. One the best Chicken Tikka Masalas. The lamb Dosa was spectacular. We really enjoyed our meal.
Low key and inventive Indian food. I loved everything I tried. Simple things like pani puri became complex with a mint sauce. The lentil appetizer was made exciting thanks to an assortment of grains and nuts. The curry, while more traditional, was still really good. The prices were reasonable.
