It’s on the corner of the Triangle, close to the big NCP, although the drivers in our party had chosen to park in Berkeley Square. Öz had a Christmas set menu which we all chose and all liked very much indeed. Olives to start, then a plate of meze each (a little of everything – cacik, hummus, that sort of stuff. All good except for the celery stuff (which unfortunately tasted of celery… The perils of the meze – everyone else cleared their plates. Then I had the Iskender which came with spicy sauce and yoghurt and was delicious; the salmon was marked as excellent; the lamb ala crem got probably the highest marks. The house red went very well with it all. I had apricots for dessert, stuffed with (I think pistachios. Nice, but with hindsight I think I would have preferred the ice cream which everyone else chose. I looked up Öz in Google Translate – it came up with Self, Core, Essence, Soul. Add friendly and happy to that. We had a superb meal.
My three girlfriends and I decided to celebrate my birthday at Oz Restaurant and what a great decision that was. We are all mad about Turkey and between us our visits there must easily add up to more than 100. So I think we are qualified to say that the food and the hospitality at Oz is typically Turkish and we couldn't fault it. Both food and wine are reasonably priced. We will definitely be back for more of those Brandy Alexanders (yes I know we should have been drinking Raki but they were sooooo good! .
We were given a fixed price as a group of 20 only to find out that they put a so called 'service charge ' on top of the price they gave us. Beware of that! They can con you! Also the portions are small and the prices are expensive. Not recommended as there are much better places for cheaper prices...
Huh-my friend and I were visiting from London and had read the good reviews from you yocals,so decided to try it.Firstly-make sure you don 't sit anywhere near the door-because it doesn 't close properlyMy friend and I both had the meat sampler menu with a selection of starters. The starters were pretty bland and arrived at the same time as the meat main course. The meat consisted of exactly seven wafer thin slices of lamb sausage and two tiny pieces of minced lamb-to share between us.We had a small beer(very small bottle) each and our bill came to £38 without service. To be fair the waitress offered us more food when I told her we were still hungry, but I couldn 't wait to get home to raid my fridge.Ok if you are on a diet I suppose. But you Bristolians need to get to London for some proper Turkish food-you can get double the food for half the price -and much tastier too.The only thing to recommend this place is the overworked waiter who doubled up as chef and cashier.
If you want to try something different from what you eat daily, this is the best place to go. The food is very tasty, the chef is brilliant and the staff very pleasant. The price is good for the quality of the food. You can park accross the road into the NCP car park. Try the 3 courses menu with the mixed grill. The baclava with the ice cream is a delicious combination. Turkish cofee is good but we missed the turkish tea and the hookah. We will come back again.
