I am beginning to turn around with my opinions of Southbank restaurants. A number of years ago they were a tourist trap, but something seems to have happened. The restaurants seem to be getting smarter more intelligent, almost like they are learning (insert; dramatic concerned raised eyebrow staring directly at the camera). Food was lovely, elegant, simple yet delicious. I could pick vibrant flavours in each dish and not just a mish mash of stuff thrown together (except the cold deli mezza platter). It helped with the ambiance that our waiter spoke with a Spanish accent then changed back to Ozzie when he chatted with a colleague.... ahh authentic. Love it.
FELLAS, LISTEN UP: this is where you take her. We were seated and immediately offered sparkling water, a blanket (yes, a blanket- it’s a thing) and handed the menu. We decided on the ‘Ravioli con Zucca’ (pumpkin and ricotta ravioli) with a ‘Vendure’ side (steamed broccolini). The ravioli had some sort of deathly-good, sweet parmesan crumb sprinkled over the generous serving which to be completely honest deserves a 5.5 (but there’s no such rating). Service was very attentive, almost too attentive perhaps. For dessert we ordered the ‘Crema al ciccolata’ (Choclate mousse); rich and creamy (neither foamy nor overly-sweet). Remarkable you wouldn’t think white chocolate and balsamic goes, but you’ve got to try it for yourself. That sticky, acidic glaze just cuts through the sugar and makes it taste so fresh- my goodness. A definite 4.5. Everything just fits and it’s comfortable. The parisian cafe chairs, waterfront view, you’ll hardly believe you’re in Brisbane, SouthBank. [Parking tip: street parking off Stanley street is much closer and cheaper than any of the parking facilities. If you get lost, and can’t find Popolo, just head towards the water, you won’t miss it!]

Went here for a work dinner recently. Superb location with priceless views over the river and city. Atmosphere was quite nice and restaurant was well presented. The general consensus across the table was the food quality was average to good but horrific value for money. I don't think I would ever go back.
