I decided on their BBQ pork and rice, which is usually a simple dish, but I was soon to learn that microwaving is not the same a BBQ'ing. The first thing that was off to me was the fact that the container was extremely hot and steaming as I opened this up. I've never had BBQ pork that was steaming. Once opening I could see that the bottom half is filled with watery sauce with rice in it. The second part is the meat itself was rubbery and wet. I gave this back to the front staff and said that I would like a refund of my money because this was really not what I wanted. The manager then said "Ok Bye." and both staff walked away just ignoring me. Going on the behind side of the little restaurant you can see that all the containers are already prepared and are put into microwaves under the benches to heat up before serving. My expectations were low, but this was just lazy. I have attached an image below to give you an idea of what to expect
The yum cha offerings here are decent for a food court set up. Popular dishes such as steamed prawn dumplings are ready-made to go, which I like for the convenience and it hits the spot when I have a craving! It doesn't compare to your usual yum Cha restaurant food of course, but it's a good lunch option for city workers. The only thing I dislike is the box of tissues they use in place of serviettes (at the self service sauce station) - common for casual eat-in Asian joints at Sunnybank but a bit weird for a city food court takeaway!
I somehow manage to keep getting to these Yum Cha places, maybe through luck or because they are so apparent around the place. Not once have I found one that is anywhere below greatness thus far. You have some of the best examples of good dumplings, and healthy Chinese-style dishes that are substantial and filling. Most of them are brilliant to take a group of people to (the more, the merrier, and more to try). This one gets a bit of the hawker store feel instead, and for that it is just as good in spite of the lower rating (which I will explain at the end). Getting off work, before heading off home to do the usual weight training, it was time to find somewhere for a quick lunch before doing so. As always, it was a case of trying not to get too predictable and also finding somewhere that was relatively good value with getting a decent meal, and still not having to break the bank. Granted, food courts are often not bad for that and they can often house some... read more
Ordered the deep fried chicken with rice. The rice was ok, it lacked a lot of flavour, I didn't end up finishing it. The deep fried chicken was alright. The BBQ pork dumplings were terrible. So floury and thick with only a little bit of BBQ pork, wasn't impressed at all, I won't be returning.
The food aren't delicious anymore. I have been to this haus several time. It used to be a nice place. As an old customer, I am totally disappointed. The size of side dish became smaller and the noodle of laksa was glass noodle rather than egg noodle. The waitstaff are impolite and irresponsible.
