I had never been to this café before today and found the staff to be incredibly rude, as if they didn't want to be there at all. It felt like they might as well have thrown my coffee cup at me. Despite being the only customer, I waited over 10 minutes to place my order and was met with a curt "what do you want?" rather than a friendly "hello, what can I get for you?" It is clear that the staff's attitude needs improvement before they are hired. It seems like they all hate their jobs.
I love the Asda café. Whether I go in for a coffee with a friend or take my daughter for the £1 dinners after school, we always have a pretty good experience. The staff at the counter are extremely friendly and helpful. They even go out of their way to make my coffee for me and bring it to the table since I am on a stick. However, the manager is rude and unprofessional. During a previous visit, a staff member offered to help my friend bring his food over and the manager scoffed at the idea, claiming they were too busy. My friend, who is losing his sight, really appreciates the assistance. The girls at the counter are familiar with him, but it seems the manager is not, as she is rarely present. What really bothered me was when I overheard the manager discussing food waste with the staff. She suggested that leftover beans should not be thrown away, but instead mixed with boiling water, refrigerated, and reused the next day. I was relieved to see the staff member question this practice and refuse to do it. Now, I am left uncertain about the safety of eating there. This risky practice should not be happening, even if it is just one person doing it.
Very Very Disappointing I called in for breakfast today( 11:00hrs 6 Dec) while my wife was shopping in store. I ordered a full breakfast, toast and a cup of tea. I asked for soft yolks. I sorted out making my tea and went to a table to wait. 15 minutes later my plate was delivered. The first thing I noticed was that the only visible egg had a smashed yolk, I pointed this out to the server and she said that it was because the egg had been flipped. I asked for it to be changed and pointed out there were items missing hash brown, black pudding and toast. A few minutes later she returned with the egg replaced however this was hard and had been dumped on top of the other egg, breaking that yolk that was fine earlier. A few minutes later 2 slices of toast were deposited on my table. They were not buttered. I wondered if there were butter portions on the plate but on lifting the toast it revealed that the bread was not toasted on both sides. So back to the counter where the same toast was again put through the machine and buttered. I again pointed out that the meal was missing items. I was then told that there wasn’t any but I pointed out hash browns being served as we spoke. Regardless, if all items were not available I should have been informed and could have made different choices. I had almost finished eating when another team member turned up with black pudding. I’m not sure how it had been cooked but it had not been near any grill or griddle, it was soft and soggy. When I again pointed out there was still an item missing she replied, “Look, I know you are disappointed but I’m busy! Do want some cake or something.” I declined the cake and she walked away. Overall, the food itself was OK. I just would have liked all of it on my plate at the beginning. The service however was atrocious, that’s from all 3 who were involved. Neither of them made any attempt to apologise or much effort to sort out a simple breakfast. Even after 5 different conversations/explanations it still wasn’t sorted. There is no excuse for this poor service apart from perhaps complacency and resentment on receiving a complaint. I just wanted a simple breakfast as shown on the menu. Fail, Fail, Fail. Rather a rambling review but so much needed explaining.
The worst breakfast I’ve paid for in many a year! They had no filter coffee but were more than happy to charge filter coffee prices for Nescafé instant!!! I’m not guessing it was instant, the jar they were using was right on the counter in front of us, and it was definitely Nescafé! When the food arrived, it had clearly been sitting under the lights on a hot plate, slowly getting dryer and dryer. The Black pudding was rock hard on the outside, it clearly did not enjoy the sun beds at its spa break kitchen location, and the sausages would make 3 day old cardboard taste moist, while the bacon would cut it at 2 day old cardboard! The only thing cooked fresh were the eggs, and they were undercooked leaving that gross mucus-like clear jelly on the top that wobbled and shimmered in the light as you tried to cut the sausages with blunt knives, just to remind you it was there. The toast was nice.
