The staff always greets you warmly and are happy to answer any questions you may have. I’ve sampled a variety of dishes here, and each one is incredibly flavorful. My personal favorite is the lamb korma, extra spicy! Garlic naan is always a must-have, and I try a different cocktail with each visit. We love the new location and are eager to see what this exciting new chapter brings. We’ll definitely be back soon to check out the new offerings!
Essential information: They offer a fully vegetarian option that includes Paneer Bhurji, which is like scrambled eggs made with cottage cheese, and it pairs wonderfully with the Lachha Paratha—100% whole wheat clay oven bread generously slathered in butter. Although it might not be on the menu, their Punjabi chef can whip it up for you. The full bar boasts an impressive selection of top-quality single malts and American bourbons. Their Casamigos Don Julio Margaritas are both strong and delicious. Regarding my previous review from October 2022, this restaurant serves authentic North Indian cuisine and is located at 168 Montowese Street in Branford, CT. Without a doubt, it is the best Indian restaurant in the state. The newly renovated building features a charming fish pond with a fountain, creating a tranquil setting. Their Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Saag, Malai Kofta, Saag Paneer, and Korma are simply to die for. Don't miss the fresh Cheese Garlic Naan straight from the oven, and the long-grain Basmati Rice Biryani is scrumptious. They now have a full bar with a separate entrance through the municipal parking lot, offering an extensive wine list and a variety of strong, handcrafted cocktails. The photos depict their Combo Vegetarian Thaali, Lamb Saag, and Non-Vegetarian Thaali, and the beer featured is an NEIPA from Still Hill Brewery in Rocky Hill, CT—a delightful example of a New England IPA from a local brewery. As for the negative reviews, I suggest ignoring them; they are often not credible, especially when written by fellow Indians. Some Indian patrons tend to be cheap, arrive late, criticize the food, and do not tip the hardworking staff. I highly recommend ordering their Combo Thaali and challenging yourself to finish it—it's simply delicious!
Our go-to Indian restaurant has truly outdone itself lately. They've expanded their menu to include a variety of delicious options across different categories, and the owners and staff are incredibly helpful in guiding your selections. The new location is stunning and features significantly more off-street parking. Additionally, there's a full-service bar with two televisions in the waiting area. Be sure to make reservations on weekends! Take-out remains a popular choice as well.
We have been going to Darbar since we moved here 7 years ago! We love the food curry, garlic Naan, vindaloo all delicious. You can choose your heat level. We are regular customers and are usually served by B , who is a wonderful server, who remembers what we drink ? Highly recommend!!
Checked new location and was not disappointed! They did a total gut of the building and it looks great. We are not experts on Indian food and i normally relied on a couple coworkers in the past to steer me to menu items I'd like, but we quickly settled on two dishes, a curry and a masala that were delicious. We had hoped to try their new Indian pizza, which while on the new menu is not yet available, suggest calling ahead if that's also on your mind!
