Food was par and pricey, service was bad, waited for an order that never came through and had to cancel.Only good thing is the ambience. My first and last.
Great service and great food! It was the best my Japanese experience in Melbourne!
Fine dining with efficient service. Have had better Yakiniku in Melbourne.
We dined at Hana and spent $398 for two, which included edamame, premium sushi moriawase, oyster shooters, a tosaka salad with ponzu dressing, scampi parmesan cheese soup, and a premium wagyu platter featuring A5 Kagoshima M12 sirloin thinly sliced and served with sushi rice, as well as premium ox tongue and mushroom toban-yaki. While the service could have been better, especially at nearly $200 per person, the quality and quantity of the food, paired with the beautiful atmosphere, made it almost worthwhile. To elevate our experience to a five-star rating next time, I would suggest the following: 1. **Cook the Meat at the Table:** For the premium wagyu platter, having the staff grill the meat at our table would enhance the overall dining experience. Since this is a core part of the meal, and the meat is thinly sliced, it should be easy to manage and would justify the higher price. During our meal, I did have several highlights: 1. **Efficient Clearing of Plates:** I appreciated how quickly the Katori staff cleared away empty dishes, keeping the table tidy throughout our meal. 2. **Delicious A5 Kagoshima Sirloin:** The staff made a delightful presentation with the sirloin, brushing a thin layer onto the grill before draping it over rice, topped with a creamy egg yolk. It was incredibly flavorful and served at the perfect temperature. 3. **Innovative Grill Design:** I was impressed with the grill that incorporated induction heating. This setup, lacking traditional overhead ventilation, made for a “boujee” atmosphere without the risk of our clothes absorbing unpleasant odors. 4. **Beautiful Presentation of Sushi:** The premium sushi moriawase was stunning, served on a bed of ice with lemon slices and featuring a variety of fresh sashimi, from shrimp to kingfish, tuna, salmon, and even scallops. It was a significant upgrade compared to typical set menus. 5. **Fun Mochi Dango:** The mochi dango dessert was a delightful surprise, with a nice grilled element. It was refreshing to see mochi featured on a dessert menu, as it’s not often offered. Overall, while there’s room for improvement, the delicious food and unique experience made our visit to Hana memorable.
