One of the top Mexican restaurants in Boulder. The Chile Relleno Is amazing!
I was really loving this place. The pace was intentionally slowed way down, allowing plenty of time to enjoy the food and drink. Our server was personable and engaging. The ambience was just what I was looking for in a date night. Everything tasted amazing...I was so ready to give this place 5 stars. Just before leaving, I went into the restroom and watched a server come out of the stall and skip the sink. I thought back to how many times he had shaken my hand throughout the night. I figured he just sent a text or fixed his shirt or something. But it doesn't matter. If you are a server and you go to the restroom, you wash your hands before you leave. You are handling other people's food. It's been one month since my visit and I still can't shake that experience.
Amazing service, well-presented and delicious food, some of the best tortilla chips I've had, lovely atmosphere. A bit expensive for everyday dining, but perfect for special occasions. Don't expect to eat quickly, it's a destination dining experience, everything is made to order, even the sopapillas and fried ice cream.
We waited 15 minutes just to get water at our table once we sat down, and that was only because a manager got us the waters. We weren't greeted by our server till 20 minutes after we sat down. After getting our food, which was the only redeeming quality, she didn't return to the table till it was time to pay the bill. If it had been busy, the service would have been more understandable, but the place was not full and other tables who came in after us were greeted, and served, before us by their server. The food is fine but not worth the price. We won't be regulars at Agave.
