Maxine's On Saint James - Boston

Here's what I tried: - Fried chicken: good but bland, nothing to write home about. - Garlic potatoes: dry and lacking flavor. - Mac and cheese: probably the best dish they offer, but still dry. It was mainly just cheese with a hint of spice and the macaroni. - Collard greens: salty, but otherwise decent. - Gravy: also on the salty side. In the end, I questioned whether the meal was worth the $98 we spent. It felt overhyped, and that's definitely reflected in the price.

I had the pork chops, which were quite tasty. However, the rice was bland and the fries were underwhelming. The green beans were the worst I've ever tasted. Overall, I felt like my time and money were not well spent on this soul food experience.

The Covid restrictions are excessive. The world has reopened, and yet I had to download an app and make a purchase while someone was right in front of me. I want to support Black-owned businesses, but I don’t have time for all these extra steps, and I know others feel the same. I prefer going to Yashuh, which is also Black-owned, where I can simply place my order and be on my way quickly and easily.

Eating without doubt is delicious! I would have got a five-star. my man steak tipps $23.99 for steak tips, mac and cheese was a part for a small child, they placed a tablespoon of rice and bean and 6 bites size steak tips! for $23! my head was good for $16, but the steak tips. my man took three forks of mac

I had an overall positive experience with this restaurant. I love sampling soul food establishments when visiting different cities. I chose Maxine’s because online in said there was an option to dine in. When I arrived, it was only a store front. I had to download an app in order to order and pay for my food. I was disappointed by these things. However my food was good. I had fried catfish, greens, Mac and cheese, with a corn bread muffin. The fish was fresh and moist. That was the best part. It was delicious. It seemed like a cross between cornmeal batter and beer batter. The sides were not spectacular but they were good. I could have gotten this same meal about $5 cheaper back home in Kansas City with bigger portions but overall I was satisfied.
