I tried the butterscotch and salt carmel and ended up getting a scoop of carmel on a hot day. This place is pretty big when you walk in with a bunch of tables to sit and hang out with friends. The flavor was really good, but I don't think I'm a huge fan of frozen custard. It's really dense, but it was melting very quickly (not sure if it's the consistency or just because it was really hot outside). It's in a good location right at the corner and you can notice it from down the street.
This frosty dessert is no yolk, or all yolk. My freshly fat coated tongue votes the latter. Abbott's is a little airier than the reigning champ of frocus BR of Woodbridge VA yet still weighs heavy on the taste buds. Rich and light, like mayo in a centrifuge, and just as slick with the mouthfeel. My fresh strawberry was not overly sweet (butterscotch, you're saccharine bro , and I appreciate the actual fruit flavor, but after a few licks, I couldn't taste anything except cold. A small is plenty, and will run you just over four bones unless you opt for a waffle cone (dipped and plain avail which ups the ante another buck. Frozen dipped bananas, cookiewiches and pints on the fly also available. I'm not going out of my way for a return trip, but I wouldn't stop the squad if they wanted to cause a little frocus. Which they likely will... ... Because they've got no chill. (See youngsters, I'm with it!
After kayaking it was super hot. So came here for ice cream. I had chocolate and espresso flavors. Espresso was good but chocolate was not good. Because I had higher expectation due to yelp rating, it was a little disappointing. Also the flavor I wanted to have, black raspberry, was out of stock. It was not good enough to make me think about coming back.
Oh. My gosh. So maybe I'm biased because this was my first time trying frozen custard, but I just tried Abbott's today and it was DELICIOUS. I just got vanilla (cause I'm boring) and on our walk back home, while still eating the cone, I was telling my boyfriend how I can't wait to come back to try a milkshake. It was so creamy and delicious. I've passed this place a bunch and the shop is always full. The interior is pretty plain but the staff is friendly and the product is awesome. Also if you haven't tried frozen custard before, do it! Like, now!
I really needed a couple pints of custard (just had oral surgery and smooth cold custard is very soothing) so I dropped by on my way back home from Allston. Didn 't have an ice pack or cooler in the car, so I was a little nervous about the 50 minute drive home, but decided to take the risk anyways. I got the espresso and cake batter, both flavors I hadn 't tried before, bundled them up in my coat together and blasted the AC. All was well--nothing melted!! The espresso is my new favorite flavor. The cake batter is a little too sweet but tastes just like cake batter (it 's also creamier). The texture of the custard in these pints is soft and smooth if you take them out of the freezer a few minutes before consuming, but not as 'custardy ' as if you had ordered a scoop at the store. I wanted to do so, but was too full after my meal, and I needed more to tide me over when it 's too painful to eat a real meal. The server was friendly and apologetic that they didn 't have something to keep the custard cold for the ride home (but I don 't blame her for that--not even sure what I was expecting when I asked). I do wish I could have tried the flavors I got before buying the pints, but they go by a limited flavor list every day and those two were not on it that day.
