Big Hickory Seafood Grille

The owner announced on the Nextdoor app that the restaurant will be closing permanently on January 9, 2023. It's truly unfortunate, as we really enjoyed dining there. It appears there were just too many challenges to overcome.

The restaurant is closed due to damage from a hurricane and flooding. The owners have lost not only the restaurant but also the marina and office building, as well as their home and rental properties on Hickory Island.

The restaurant is slightly set back from Hickory Blvd., making it a bit hard to spot, but I'm glad we discovered it. It offers a serene waterfront dining experience with the best food we enjoyed all week.

I want to say first that I stayed next door to this restaurant and it was access. If the food wasn’t good, I would say so. I come down most years around the 2nd or third week in September and many times they are closed for the season. I’m glad they were open this year. I had the coconut shrimp one night and the Grouper tacos another night. Both were very good. They also had a choice of IPAs, so I was happy. I think I’m going to try their lunch one day, it seems like quite a bargain.

Delicious food. Our waitress was very friendly and made us feel welcome and comfortable. She was also very knowledgeable of the menu. My crab stuffed grouper was delicious and packed with crab. They have the best sweet potato fries we’ve ever eaten. Great experience dining here.
