This place says it 's open. You can 't find it. Then when you do (it 's in a basement) all the basement doors are locked. So weird and creepy and we are mad that we drove into town and paid for parking only to wander around in 102° looking for something that doesn 't seem to exist. Now I see why it 's called 'underground '
Unassuming is an understatement in describing our experience at BB's Underground. We enjoyed a Friday lunch and were seated around 12:45. Only one other customer up until a table of four came in at the end of our meal. While the surroundings are sparse, the food was terrific. Wife had the pulled pork and I had the best brisket sandwich ever. The fries were great as was the coleslaw. Not only will we be back, but will certainly use them for catering.
There 's something a little bizarre about entering this place down the stairs at the Shriner 's building. When you enter, it 's a little surreal almost like you 're in a Tarantino film or something. It 's a. bit of a strange spot, and you 'll probably feel that way upon entering, but that 's where it ends. Upon entering, we were quickly greeted by the owner, who encouraged us to come in, sit closer, get friendly. He 's a truly genuine fellow the kind of guy I 'd like to sit down, have coffee with and get to know. He informed us that he was the only one working there, as if to prepare us for potential delays, but that proved unnecessary because the service was completely on point, the food was hot, and the service was (kind of as expected at this point) friendly. I don 't want to belabor the point here, but this is a guy that really cares what his patrons think about his food and whether they are satisfied. He truly wanted honest feedback on the meal, the experience, etc. He regularly expressed appreciation for the support, which was nice to hear, but for a guy selling food of this quality at these prices, I always felt like I was the one who should be saying thanks . Oh yeah, this is a restaurant, so, the food... I think I can keep this part pretty short: it 's the best pulled pork in Idaho. Their homemade sauce was one of the best I 've had *anywhere*. I also had a polish sausage, which, if I 'm being honest tasted nothing like a polish sausage (thanks to his approach to slow smoking then grilling them), but it was incredible. I 've never had collard greens I didn 't like, so it would be hard for me to say too much there, but they definitely didn 't disappoint, and I could have easily eaten more of them. If you 're looking for a comfortable, quiet place to eat really good food and have a chance to chat with an owner who seems to be a really nice fellow and support a burgeoning local business, please check this place out. I don 't want to take anything away from the great and extremely reasonably priced food here...the trip (if you 're making a trip) is worth it just for that, but the lasting impression of the owner and the obvious care that he takes in both his food and his customers is really what 's really next level here.
Not only is the BBQ absolutely amazing but if you're lucky enough to meet Brother Brown, you're in for an even greater treat. I came here after running a 50k trail ultra marathon and Brother Brown hooked me up with an additional piece of grilled salmon as a courtesy. I won't ever to go another BBQ joint in Boise!
