Ann went above and beyond throughout the whole planning process, answering every question we had, tailoring everything to exactly what we wanted, all while she and her team worked their tails off to finish the beautiful new barn and bridal suite! The barn is open and airy, with a big deck, lawn space, and a great dance floor! The bridal suite is beneath the barn and has everything you could want or need, and in both private and convenient. There are even 5 guest rooms upstairs, each with a full bathroom! Truly, the Rioux's and their team welcomed us like family and made this event so intimate and amazing. There is thought and care in every corner of the venue- truly words can't do it justice- and I haven't even mentioned the food yet!!! THE FOOD!!! Every bite was SO GOOD!!! I'm a native Mainer, but for many of our guests, this was their first time here, and we really wanted them to experience Maine's seafood and fresh summer flavors- oh boy, did Ann and her team deliver!!! We had lobster, we had blueberry cobbler, we had steak so tender you barely needed a butter knife to cut it! We also had the best crab cakes of my life, and I'm a hard sell. Ann and her team are the reason our wedding was the best weekend of our lives. I couldn't have planned a wedding from across the country without her, and I never imagined someone could be so warm and loving and welcoming to strangers as Ann has been. I cannot wait to see this venue continue to grow and host more events- truly, Ann and her team are any bride's dream come true. We'll be home to visit in September or so, and we can't wait to stop in and visit and hear how the rest of the summer has gone!! Without a single moment of hesitation, I want to shout Ann's name from the rooftops and recommend the Farmhouse Inn to anyone.
I can see why this place gets some weird reviews. I wasn't going to say anything until things just kept adding up. This place is kind of strange and uninviting. Service is nonexistent, it's more of a check yourself in and figure it out yourself thing. Find the light switches, feel your way up through the darkness kind of place. I don't know about breakfast here because it was not mentioned and there didn't seem to be anyone around in the mornings the weekend I was there. The owner gave her number but was unreachable, also there is no cell service and the WiFi is unsecured and very spotty. Both staff members I met for a combined total of 1.5 seconds before they rushed away, asked me if I was there for a wedding and when I said no just kind of rushed off. Odd interactions and the owner did this creepy canned smile that was the most disingenuous look I've ever seen on a persons face. The rooms are TINY and HOT! You're upstairs in a barn so all the heat rises to your room. there is only one window in each room so cross ventilation is only possible when the door to your room is open to the public hallway. There is ac in the hallway but not the rooms, it's just there to tease you about how cool you'd be if you slept in the hallway. There is no ac in your room only a fan and the curtains on the window somehow don't let much air through when open but they let all the light in when closed. If you're trying to sleep go somewhere else. If you have more than one person or suitcase larger than a carry on good luck. You'll be tripping over everything. This place is like a very expensive self serve hostel and I would not return since there's so many other nice places nearby. Also included are pics of the hole in the window screen that was patched with toilet paper and scotch tape. It let bugs in all night. Also the long dark hair I found in the shower that was definitely not mine. I wrote this at 3am my last night because why not I can't sleep anyway it's 80 million degrees in here I waited to post it so creepy owner doesn't slash my tires only added a star out of pity and the bed was comfy. had no chance to verbalize any of these issues directly as I never saw a single other soul or got a call back. I'm not even sure any of my calls connected.
We arrived at 3:00 PM check in time. No one was around, but we found a note, after going to every door and finding it locked, along with keys left in the door for our room. We were hoping to eat at the restaurant, as well as enjoying the included breakfast, but were instructed to call to make reservations. We called several times, including the In case of emergency numbers listed, yet no one answered. No voice message, just endless rings. We were tired after a long day of looking at homes in the Downeast area and wanted to take in the Blue Hill Fair. After returning from the fair and finding the place empty still, we decided to simply head for home, a 2 hour drive. The signs on the door read Happy Hour, Saturdays, 4-8 PM , yet the place was clearly closed for the season. I cannot fathom owning a business and NOT being available to my customers. Clearly they had better things to do, and as it turned out, so did we. We will be speaking to our CC company about refunding the $200 per night charge.
Do not stay here. Inn keeper, Ann Rioux, does not follow her policies. Kept $50 per canceled reservation instead of $35. Promised to refund the entire reservation by mailing a check to avoid credit card charges. After discussing this matter with Ann, I 'm writing this review to alert future guests that I found Ann to be vindictive, nasty, and rude. Does not return phone calls or emails. When I finally got a live person to leave my message with, Ann called right back furious that I would speak to one of her employees. The entire experience was negative and adversarial.
Very nice addition to Blue Hill. We ate in the attractive outside sitting area. You look out at a very average meadow (no water views as it's inland) but it's peaceful. We started with cocktails (margarita and house rum punch), which were tasty and strong. Then we worked our way through 4 starters (bistro salad, Filo triangles, crab cakes, beef kabob) and a bottle of wine. Wine list is very short, but reasonably priced. They let us taste before committing to the bottle. Service was friendly and efficient, if not terrifically personal. It's a large space and is bound to be busy on the weekends during the season. They have rooms as well as a catering business and presumably cater to weddings.
