Truffles Fine Cuisine 56 Degrees

I called to add more people to our reservation, and the woman I spoke with said they could accommodate us at 8:30 after a brief hold. However, when I called back to confirm, the man who answered informed me that all employees had been instructed not to accept any more large parties, and that the previous staff member was mistaken. My party and I were left feeling disappointed, as there was no accountability on their part and no effort made to rectify the situation.

The food was overall very good, and with a few adjustments, it could be fantastic. For instance, the vegetables were overcooked. The staff had some difficulties with the drink menu, particularly in terms of knowing what was available and providing timely responses. Our server was new and still learning, which was understandable, but they had trouble taking and remembering our orders. The restaurant was quite empty during our visit, so it lacked ambiance, though I can imagine it would feel more lively when busy. Overall, it's a nice place with good food; however, the service needs improvement, and the prices felt a bit high. Despite this, we would be willing to return for another try.

The food at this restaurant is consistently excellent, and while the initial mix-up was resolved, we were disappointed with the table we were given at first. We had a reservation for 5:45 and found ourselves at a small table for two right next to the servers' station. At that time, there were eight open booths and several other tables available, yet we were directed to what felt like a last-minute, no-reservation table. We celebrated my husband's birthday at Truffles. We live 60+ miles from Bloomington. We alway choose another wonderful Bloomington restaurant for special occasions but decided to give Truffles a try for a change. This was our first visit and really enjoyed our dinner. We started with the warm pine nut crusted goat cheese with toasted ciabatta bread. We both decided on the 5 oz. filet (which is a part of the 56 Degree bar plate menus). Our filet was delicious! Our dinner came with mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli, both were delicious! The only disappoints of the evening were 1) I noted on our Open Table reservation that we were celebrating my husband's birthday. That was not acknowledged at all and 2) we asked for additional ciabatta bread to finish our goat cheese appetizer and were charged $2 for the additional 2-3 slices to finish our already $15 appetizer. Those were the only disappointments for the evening. I would definitely recommend Truffles for any special occasion or romantic dinner!

Truffles is truly a gem! The food, drinks, and service are all truly first class. They have an extensive wine list and a menu of carefully crafted cocktails. We have never experienced a meal that was less than perfectly prepared and delicious. This is one of our very favorite go to restaurants! You will never regret an evening at Truffles!
