It lived up to its promise with the Plat du Jour lunch offering three simple but tasty courses. Add a pichet of wine, and for 47 euros, you have lunch for three! Evidently the locals like it too, as there were plenty of them stopping by for a meal.
I chose this place because there was no bad reviews on trip advisor and I understand why: the service was very welcoming, the food simple but well done and the price very reasonable. I had frog legs which were melting in the mouse and the most delicious I had in years, followed by a piece of beef and a tarte tatin. Nothing extravagant, but a solid, homey savoir faire. To go along, a bottle of Saint Pourcain that got a silver medal, which was also a good surprise both in taste and cost. And as we did not finish it we were offered to take it home. A good address held by a hard working and dedicated couple.
We have eaten at this restaurant three times now and can recommend it. Some amongst our group are pescetarians and we mentioned this when booking. This did not cause a problem they adapted their prix fixe menu very cheerfully so we could eat from it, much better than some other restaurants in the area who served bacon wrapped fish and assumed we would just pick off the bacon! The restaurant is run by a lovely couple, monsieur does the cooking and madame runs front of house. A great team. The food is all good, fairly traditional French mainly home made and we loved especially the lovely cheese trolley at the end, which had a great selection of cheese.
5 adults 1 teenager ( 3 plus teen from Scotland) that means 2 actual Blomard locals! 2 Scottish adults don't eat meat but do eat fish when out in the Auvergne where, frankly, vegetarians are poorly catered to. Hey this is our local village Bistro and we have been here before under the previous management / chef ( who were from Dunkirk) and have not been impressed. So we return to try the New People. What can I tell you? Kir's to start, 3 course Prix fixe dinner, veggie starter, fish main, tarte tatin for desert, 2 litres house rose, coffees. €140 incl 10% gratuity. That's for 6 people! For 2.5 hours dinner and chat. Relaxed, comfortable, short walk home, excellent. Food was good too. Give La Chaumiere a try. Reservations 0470 066892
