It took me about 25 minutes to drive up to the 8,400 foot Cardinal Resort from down in Bishop at 4,000 feet. It was well worth it. It was 87° in town, around 70° up at Cardinal. The mountains are gorgeous on the way up, thank goodness for the pull offs. I took lots of photos. I was here in June, the main road immediately after Cardinal was still closed because of the heavy snowfall from this past winter. I parked at the resort bought a few souvenirs at the store. The man working in the store was very friendly willing to answer my questions about the area. Then, I walked around to take it all in. I loved seeing the Stellar's jays and the cute little pear-shaped partridges running across the road so quickly that it looked like they had 4 legs instead of 2, with their head feather bobbing. The aspens were beautiful, the pool that was fed by icy snow melt was so clear pristine made a perfect mirror for pics I took. On the way through the few houses up there, like a small subdivision, I was absolutely delighted to see 8-10 mule deer fearlessly cross the road go into the woods. Got some great, clear photos.I walked around in Cardinal village, although I have never stayed in the vacation cabins, they are really homey clean. People say hi from their porches, dogs are out walking around. Little bridges cover picturesque narrow but crystal clear streams. I peaked into the window of an empty cabin, it is definitely a place I'd love to stay in the future. My aunt had told me that she my uncle had stayed there, along with her daughter her daughter's new husband the wedding party, about 2 years ago. It was like a reception/getaway for everyone. They had enjoyed their stay. I liked it up there so much that a week later I went up again. Great little place!
Great food, awesome staff, and amazing views. With fall right around the corner, we will definitely be back!
Our family did not spend the night at Cardinal Village, we always go there for part of the day. We eat lunch and listen to the band on Sundays. We enjoy hanging out, paying games like bean bag toss, etc. Nice pond on the property, great place to relax and enjoy the scenery.
If I could give them more, I would. We have come here for years. I work in emergency management and just returned from the Maui mission. on the way up for labor day weekend, i was informed I needed to attend an emergency meeting regarding counties that had been affected from the hurricane as many people have lost everything. I told them my situation and that I needed internet to tap into the meeting. they graciously hooked me up and allowed me to sit inside their restaurant (which was closed at the time) and meet with local, county, and state officials. thank you for supporting our communities. You have and continue to be a blessing to the community.
Love this store. It's a nice break when staying at a campsite. Don't forget to buy a milkshake. They're amazing!
