We had a family dinner on 21 June and would rate it little above average. Would give 5 stars for Ambience and Courtsey. For food will rate 3.5. Price is ok but quantity is ok for 1 person.
Its a restaurant plus hotel. We went on our first day stay and it was awfully quite at 7 pm. The restaurant is in the basement , there were couple of foreigners and locals. Nobody bothered to come and ask for order. Finally my husband went to kitchen and we were given menus. You have to have really good patience if you want to eat there. But you don't feel like complaining once to taste the food. We had chicken sizzler , pork chilly , masala chai not strong enough) and sheazuhan chicken. Everything was yum and value for money. But the area gets really quite and little scary after 8 pm.
I had visited Pema Thang and stayed there several times between 2006 to 2011, always coming off happier than before. In fact, PT would be my first recommendation to anyone going to Mcleodganj! I took my family again in October 2018 for breakfast (rooms were full by the time we planned), even though we were staying at a place with a breakfast plan. We may have reached just as they were opening, but that's no excuse for the completely unfriendly way the lady treated us. It was difficult to get any service and the food quality seems to have gone down as well. It's a sad descent for a place from where I'd pack pancakes before flying to Delhi. The coffee is still great, though.
The title says it all. The location of the restaurant affords sweeping views and it is in a quiet area. Most of the guests seemed to be ageing Westerners like us and the food is pitched at that market, especially breakfasts. My main complaint is that the staff seem bored and unmotivated, unusual for Tibetans.
