I recognized the name of the volkshaus from several lists I had read, so we went in. it was packed because the main dining room had still opened for the evening, but we found a small table in the outer cafe-like opposite. in contrast to other reviews here we had great service from an eager and attentive server. I forgot what my gf ordered, but I ordered meat jam and the waiter insisted that we try the brot by saying that it can be simply an eating in the Swiss without brot! . I expected cultural differences, but whatever this meat lamb was, I am pretty sure it was tied at a time! the brot and whatever my gf ordered were not much better. but that's why they travel to try new things, right?! okay, maybe we just ordered ourselves wrong, or maybe we should sit in the main dining area to eat, but I didn't find the meal very good and quite expensive for what it was! the waiter was great, and the atmosphere is very nice (yes, as soon as the main dining room opened and the large amount left a nice first experience in the Swiss, but we would have done it better.
That's an old charmer. very beautiful ambiente and atmosphere. I had fish and it was very well prepared (not to take for granted) the menu consists of many old Swiss classics and was quite tempting. the service was very friendly and nice
My last visit to the volkshaus was very disappointing. I was once here to dinner to eat out and it was great. but this time: we were hungry and ordered every court that seemed like a decent lunch, as it cost us 35 CHF... each we asked the servicewoman if it was a real one and she said yes. what came was a shock. my friend got a piece of brot with some sauce and small toppings and I have enough fish, but a few spoons of kartoffels. we expressed our disappointment, and I asked upwards to kartoffel kartoffeln, so that I could finish my court by eating only fish with nothing else. although the restaurant was almost empty, it took forever to get a normal service (pick up dishes/water after filling). the communication was also bad and we let ourselves be hungry and exploited. this place could look beautiful on the inside, but they pay for everything except for the food they get. I gave them my feedback, and I didn't feel like they took care of themselves because most people are likely to be ashamed to say something. so they don't ask what they do. I recommend to them to save their money and eat somewhere else. honestly as a consumer they feel like a sweat. make sure they know exactly what they get when they decide to have a look. the menu sounds great, but they don't really get what they imagined. when they are in the opposite, they go to baracca (Italian).
We liked the atmosphere of the restaurant however food was not that good. They had a special seefood evening. We took 6 pieces of oysters that took 30min to arrive and Moules as a starter. The Moules were nod bad but the still the worst...I've ever had. Service was excellent. Aldo our waiter was very friendly, competent and caring. I think we will go again to see how it is when they have standard menu and not a special seefood one.
Our wait time was reasonable and the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant was very nice. Food was good and the price was fair; the menu choices okay. Only complaint was our waiter was not friendly but just short of being rude.
