A very special place where you pass through a back door to an alley and then trough the kitchen to end up in the restaurant. Food was nice and really unique and the service was good and fast. The decoration was beautiful but the room...was a little darker that expected.
Went there with high expectations, given the connection to Cookie’s cream, which is a place we love. I ordered the tartare. Unfortunately, for some weird reason I did not understand, it was full of creme fraiche which totally covered the taste of the meat. When...the waitress asked how we liked the food I told her that mine was not good and asked her to take it back to the kitchen. From that moment she stopped talking to us (strange and unprofessional reaction). My husband liked his steak but it was not a sensation. We left disappointed and will not go back.
We had a truly fantastic meal here last night for our group of 5. The restaurant is beautiful, the menu was great including several great vegetarian options (I'm not a veggie and still ended up eating almost entirely vegetarian it was great! The...food was well executed and interesting, as well as beautiful to look at. Most importantly, the staff was truly stellar service was impeccable. Professional but friendly, attentive but not intrusive. I live in the SF Bay Area and eat out all over the world and this place can hold its own against great restaurants anywhere. Can't wait to come back.
We had Googled places to eat in Berlin as we were on a trip with our grown up boys and wanted somewhere sophisticated and different. We took an Uber from our Hotel and the driver pointed vaguely at the street as we got out. Maps...told us we were literally outside the restaurant but we couldn’t find it at first. We found the black, metal scrolled door with its gold diamond name plate tucked in amongst the flashy shops. We then walked through a concrete floored passage way and up some steps, feeling excitingly unsure whether this was the right place. We were greeted with a neon lighted sign that read ‘you’re f ing free’ which seemed juxtaposed with the bunker style kitchen we could see ahead, but definitely piqued our interest and excitement. The restaurant lay through heavy doors and had an underground feel with dark interior and a large, long cocktail bar at the end overhung with square tiered glass lighting. We were seated on a raised eating area with plenty of room and the tables were nicely placed and not too close together. We ordered cocktails, English garden, a negroni and others and the standard of these drinks was excellent. We ate succulent beef salad, fresh salad and burrata with strawberry and dill, very delicious and well presented. We ordered a German wine but unfortunately they did not have this as our waiter told us the delivery had been incorrect however he suggested another wine which was also a very good quality. There was a wait for the return of the waiter to advise us of the wine issue but we were also waiting for our food. Our waitress was very pleasant and helpful, apologising for the wait for the food and topped up our water and drinks whilst we waited. Other tables seemed to be waiting for food too but the atmosphere was very relaxed. Whilst we waited a DJ attended the deck and played some dance music that had a strong undercurrent beat that wasn’t too loud but added to the underground feel of the place. Our food eventually arrived and we ate fillet steak with chips, an excellent risotto with wild garlic, kiko chicken and beef salad. The portions seemed small but we found we were satisfied as we ate the meals and they were delicious. We finished off with espresso martinis that were also an excellent standard. The food was very enjoyable and the actual service was attentive but the wait for food was a little long. It is an expensive restaurant so be prepared to pay but it does feel exclusive and the food and drink excellent. We left the restaurant back through the bunker style path and stopped to use the PhotoBooth for a bit of fun and a memento of the night.
