Saigon Express - Berkeley

We ordered the rare bark and the brisketpho. the Pho width was good, but the Toppings plate was a bit meager. there was a nice amount of bark meat, but it came a bit overcooked for rare. it tasted like something was missing. the atmosphere wasn't great even though it was clean. just a lot of design elements that didn't fit, and a bit economical. the service was great, polite and prompt.

The pho was just average and lacked a variety of toppings. The service was decent, but overall, it felt overpriced for the quantity and quality we received. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t return.

That's one of my favorite lunch spots in berkeley. great sandwiches and the price is quite unbeatable for this opposite. bbq pork banh mi is mine to go.

The banh mi is likely the highlight of the menu. Unfortunately, my $16 chicken udon pho was a letdown, as it arrived with overcooked, gummy chicken that lacked flavor. I suspect the broth was just a cheap, uninspired version. I mentioned the issue to the owners, but they acted as if it was perfectly normal. I left feeling very disappointed.

The restaurant has a simple vibe and lacks any unique features. The kitchen and cooking area are quite basic. However, the food was good and was served in a reasonable timeframe. The price of the Phở wasn't outstanding, but it was also not too high. Overall, I would consider returning, but I wasn’t particularly impressed by the food or the restaurant itself.
