I was very disappointed by the matcha at this restaurant - it tasted grassy and weak for some reason.
I have to say, this tea place is decent overall. However, during one of my visits, I ordered a Thai tea boba latte and it had no sweetener in it. I politely mentioned it to the cashier, but she was not very friendly and acted like I was mistaken. The manager eventually corrected the mistake and I appreciated that. The service could definitely be better among some of the staff.
They have a lot of choices and you can mix and match as you please. You walk in and order on the order pad. You put together your drink piece by piece providing a lot of possible combinations. You then pay and wait for your drink to be made which happens rather quickly. The end result is pretty good! Note: There is plenty of seating inside.
Rare Tea in Berkeley is located across the campus of UC Berkeley. Parking is paid street parking, there is usually more parking around the corner or further down the street. I ordered two classics the jasmine milk tea with boba and Thai milk tea with boba. The jasmine milk tea was very floral and fragrant with a strong tea taste and only a slight creaminess to it. I got the drink with 50% sweetness and less ice, I would prefer 80% sweetness next time. The Thai milk tea has a more creaminess to it with a subtle tea taste, which I liked. I got this drink at 50% sweetness and less ice, and I feel like this had a good sweet to it. The boba was on the chewier and softer side. I preferred the Thai milk tea more, but I think I would like the jasmine milk tea more if it was sweeter.
