The Chinese waitress we had was incredibly rude and seemed very impatient, but we managed to get a smile out of her. I would not recommend this place if you expect to be treated like a valued customer, as the service was definitely lacking for the high prices. We will not be returning, and we should have known better than to come here when all the other restaurants were full and this one was almost empty.
The food was probably better than average, the service was good, but the prices were far above the top. The shares were smaller than expected, especially given prices.
Decided to return to this well known Cantonese restaurant after almost 10 years. Still good quality food, well presented and with lots of flavour. All the usual chicken, beef and pork dishes with standard sauces. These dishes labelled spicy are suitable for most Australian palettes,...very mild really. Dishes are a bit small for the price, but the service is good. Drinks are reasonably priced. The only draw back to this restaurant are the very steep entry stairs.
My wife and I have been dining at the Golden Junk for over 30 years and have never had a bad meal. Recently, we brought some friends from Melbourne who also enjoyed their meal. The fried dim sims were delicious as always, and we all loved our main dishes. The service was excellent, and we enjoyed a bottle of Josef Chromy Pinot Noir with our meal. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience and highly recommended for anyone looking for a great meal in the Bellerive area.
Because it's pretty close to where we live, my partner and I were more than once at the Golden Junk Restaurant. We've never been disappointed with the food. The service is diverse. As others have mentioned, we have experienced the lady (which I... arg is an owner) who can sometimes be somewhat abrupt, which can feel unpleasant to us. She was not there (or served customers) on our last visit. During this visit we ordered the banquet for two, consisting of soup, a duck of Wünsch and spring rolls, fried rice and two nets Cantonese Beef and Satay Chicken. The soup and the Entrees came (with a little longer delay than we might like, but nothing to complain) and were good. The rice and two main things came out simultaneously (what makes sense and what we wanted). However, I am sure that the Satay chicken must have been Sweet and Sour Chicken as it had pineapples in it and not an obvious peanut taste. Maybe. I'm wrong and they do it differently here, but overall we were happy with the meal. We also noticed that prices have increased somewhat in recent times. Not at the point of ridiculousness, but definitely worthy of the note. To the facility. This place is classic Chinese restaurant in the 1970s. Like many of these companies, they are somehow stuck in a timewarp and try to integrate any cliche Chinese decoration they can find. It is as if they had to convince the males (mostly western) that they are in a Chinese restaurant by throwing them into the face with Chinese goodness. Nevertheless, ironically, they do not offer sticks on the tables unless you ask for them! This place is not on our list of need to visit restaurants regularly, but if my partner or I want a comfortable, reasonably good Chinese meal, we say, Hey, how about the Golden Junk?
