Well worth the visit. The Belfort Lion was a must see after having visited the Bartholdi museum in Colmar. The Lion which stands 11 metres tall took Bartholdi 10 years to sculpt and commemorates the 103 day seige of Belfort where the 17,000 strong French resitence (one 3,500 soldiers) withstood the onslaught of 40,000 Prussians. There is ample parking at 1 Avenue du Général Sarrail, 90000 Belfort, France (which we only discovered after we searched for ages for a parking spot). Lovely cafes in town.
The whole town is amazing. The history building s behind the fortified wall's took my breath away. Allow plenty of time, 2 day's was just enough, with the occasional cold beer.
This has always been one of my favorite location brands when visiting Belfort. This statue was designed by architect and sculptor, Frederic Bartholdi, the same architect who designed the Statue of Liberty in New York City.
Beautiful place, the museum and restaurant closed tho
