How hard is it to cook a steak? Way too hard for the Bull & Barra apparently. I asked for it to be cooked Blue but it arrived medium, FFS , so I wrapped it up and took it home for the dog, $28 wasted and went home hungry.
The local sportsclub is a beenleigh institution. Everyone who lives in and around here visits the sporto. Mon to Wed has near 2 for 1 deals. Has very high turnover, so the food quality is always top notch. Quick time from order to table. Highly recommended it.
So my lovely wife and I are out on a date night, which are sadly far and few between which makes them all the more important. New to the area and decided to try the local club. Joined as members then headed up to the Bull and Barra restaurant. Ordered Veal Schnitzel and Trio of Sliders. No big deal when I received deep-fried 1/2 inch thick Crumbed Steak ( edible but a misrepresentation on the menu of what a "schnitzel" should be) but the worst of this meal was all 3 of the sliders meats (shredded beef, shredded pork and a whole chicken tenderloin) were served cold, not just cool but straight out of the fridge stone-cold. The buns were warm at least. My wife ate the meat from the first 2 sliders but stopped after the first bite of the chicken and then decided to tell me all the meats were cold (the old "didn't want to say anything and spoil our date-night out, my love" ) So as soon as I find this out I asked the server if they were supposed to be served cold, was told no so I asked if she could find out why the sliders were served cold, went to the kitchen and came back apologising but when I asked if the cook told her why the meats were cold I was told "they're still discussing it". Offered to get the wife something else, no not interested. Offered free dessert, no not interested. Told us a few times through the conversation we should have spoken up earlier and something could have been done ( you can't un-do bad kitchen practices and I wasn't prepared to sit there and explain this to the server), I repeated back a few times that sometimes one of the dining couple will remain silent so as not to sour the mood and spoil the night and that all I wanted was an answer as to why the meats were served cold.....No replacement meal, no free dessert, no refund....just an answer! Was lastly told we had the option to "file a report at reception". Well it's not my role to do the catering managers job, they should be aware of all foodservice practices under their control as I once was in the similar roles in my past employment in foodservice as both a head chef and catering manager! One would be led to believe that the catering manager is duplicitous in this practice in the name of cost-cutting in wastage but there are far safer was of doing this than serving reheated meats. So the points here are:- 1) This restaurant serves reheated meats for items on their menu that should be either cooked fresh (such as the Moroccan chicken tenderloin, which is also on the menu as a burger I might add.... there's a few double-ups on their menu, see if you can pick them out ) or cooked on the day and kept at a temperature of above 60 degrees (such as the shredded beef/pork) for that particular service, 2) Service personnel require training in complaint resolution and at the very least up-line the complaint to the restaurant manager for something such as this, instead of repeating "you should have said something sooner". 1st and last time eating here, diners are not only being ripped off in buying rechauffe'd or reheated food when you believe your getting fresh cooked, but also are an unwitting party to the dangerous practice of serving reheated chicken! (Note, posted on other sites as I really feel strongly about this issue and the cowboys that are doing a disservice to the foodservice industry)
This place usually has pretty good food. It pays to go on the 2 for 1 or 2nd one half price days as it can be expensive depending on what you order. I used to get the pork ribs 1kg and at 2 for 1 at the time you couldn't buy that in the shops for the price let along have it cooked with chips and salad.
