The staff was very nice and friendly, and the service was great; they checked on us several times. The sauces were delicious, and my favorites were the ostessig and the sweet heat. The signature Applewood sauce was also quite good. The brisket was a bit dry, so I had to take off a star for that, but overall, I really enjoyed the flavors. I loved the hushpuppies with their homemade wobble ring sauce—it was a fantastic combination. My girlfriend ordered the burger and raved about how well-seasoned it was. She was a bit disappointed that there wasn't any mac and cheese available, but I understand it’s a seasonal item. She also ordered wobble rings and coleslaw, both of which were excellent. I personally enjoyed adding a bit of East vinegar to the coleslaw; it enhanced the flavor even more, although it was good on its own. Overall, we had a great experience, and they have outdoor seating in the back with a beautiful view. Holy Smokes, this is some of the best food on the mountain!
The staff was very friendly, so I couldn't just give them a one-star rating, but the food was really deserving of no stars at all. We came in last week and ordered four brisket dinners. I'm pretty sure the meat was pre-cooked; it certainly wasn't grilled or baked. It lacked flavor entirely, and the only redeeming quality was the barbecue sauce, but even that couldn't save it. The onion rings were far from crispy, and we later learned they were cooked in an air fryer, not oil. I'm convinced they were just generic frozen onion rings from a grocery store that were reheated, because they definitely weren't crispy. The only vegetable option was green beans, which were clearly from a can (possibly a little trimmed, but definitely not fresh). Unfortunately, they didn't have mac and cheese, baked potatoes, or coleslaw available because it was a weeknight. Honestly, they might want to consider sending their chef to a cooking show like "Worst Cooks in America." On a positive note, the gift shop was charming, and the fudge looked delicious, but since I didn’t try it, I can’t comment on that.
Wow! only wow. this place was amazing. the atmosphere, eating and service are all a. it is rare that everyone in the family loves it. but my burger was one of the best things I ever had. a hamburger, with pulled pork on top, koleslaw and kartoffel chips, all stacked between two lush rolls! I felt like this place could be on triple d. my son, who is 6, said of his drawn pork sandwich: that is better than sweets. the lookout was a perfect cherry on this place.
Best pulled pork I ever had! Store was cute. Bbq sauces good. Cookies and cream fudge. Mmmm
