Our initial visit to Sakura was a fantastic five-star experience. However, our second order, which included several sushi rolls, left us disappointed. One of the rolls had poorly ripened avocado throughout, which is not something you want to encounter in every piece of sushi. While it's understandable to have avocados in various ripeness stages, seeing this in every bite raises concerns about their quality control. If they're willing to overlook something as important as the avocado, what else might they be letting slip? Sadly, the entire family felt unwell after our meal. It's unfortunate, especially since there aren't many great sushi options in the Pickering area.
I'm puzzled by some of the reviews for this restaurant. I've tried several sushi places in the area, and there are definitely better options, so I was quite disappointed. The sushi was overpriced for the number of pieces, and the taste was merely average. I also ordered a house salad, but when I received it, the container was leaking and had soaked my delivery bag. Upon opening it, I found about a third of a cup of water inside. I'm not sure why there was any water in there at all—perhaps from washing the lettuce—but I really shouldn't have to strain my salad before eating.
This is, without a doubt, the best sushi place in HRM. Every time we place an order, they include a complimentary roll for us to try, and it's always delicious. The restaurant is small and charming, but since we usually get takeout, that doesn't really affect us. The staff is consistently friendly, and I hope they continue doing well because they're really onto something great.
This is undoubtedly the best sushi restaurant in Halifax. Everything is incredibly fresh, and their spicy sweet potato maki is consistently served warm—it simply melts in your mouth. The food is absolutely fantastic!
