And don 't be shy to just order a starter and house salad. It 's enough for two. My dinner date (husband) loves lamb and is very picky and critical of the way it 's served. The lamp pops were above and beyond his usual expectations. We both had the wild mushroom bisque. That, along with the bread basket, would have made a very filling meal. I also ordered the Beef Pappardelle with wild mushrooms. Again, I 'm finishing that off tonight because it was just too much after drinks, bisque and bread. The patio was lovely on the water to have a drink before we were called for our reservation. The only note I would make is that it 's fruit fly season and the red wine was flowing. 'Nuf said. The Chophouse is pricey, but for a special occasion, it 's perfect. L. MacDonald
Awesome food and service. We at there two days in a row!
Don't go on a busy summer Sunday evening when the chef is off. Drinks were good, but the experience ended there. Bread didn't come until after the soup. Highly recommended French onion soup didn't have a speck of short rib, but otherwise delicious. Then our dinner orders never came. After our server located them, one dinner and the side were cold and the other, a medium rare steak was nearly raw. Sent all back and the cold dishes were rewarded-twice grilled asparagus. On a good night, it is probably good and worth the chop house price. The server should have noticed the problem much sooner but they were too busy for her to be as attentive as she should have been. The views are beautiful but I don't know that I'd try it again. Our dinners were comped but that wasn't our goal. We wanted to enjoy a nice dinner, at a highly recommended restaurant where we are staying.
Beautiful hotel restaurant with great views of Little Traverse Bay. This resort is the most high end of any in this region of the state, so it should be no surprise the prices on most everything is 30-50% higher than other area high end restaurants. If the food was comparatively better we wouldn’t complain, but the value difference just wasn’t there. You eat here for the view and ambiance…and I suppose to not eat with “commoners “. Our server was young, adequate , and pleasant, but not really trained for this level of cuisine. Our party of 3 had the bone-in Ribeye $75 why), walleye, and Paella which is not a traditional Paella we have lived in Latin America decades). Caesar and shrimp cocktail for appetizers were adequate but $36 for five jumbo shrimp? Really? Wine prices 30% higher than other area establishments. If NY prices in Northern Michigan work for you, this is your place…but I’ll take NY at this price. Final observation is how can you have a Chophouse with no pork, lamb, or veal on the menu? Baffling. Summary, not a good value even with the setting.
Why have a dress code and not enforce it? Such a nice spot and atmosphere, made less so by the attire and behaviour of so many of the restaurant guests. Either make it special or leave it a free for all. Just don't talk it up as special only to be surrounded by folks wearing attire that most well mannered folks would not get the mail in.
