The food was quite good, earning a solid four out of five. However, the atmosphere was a bit lacking, which impacted the overall experience.

The food was excellent, and the atmosphere was fantastic. However, while the service was very friendly, it was rather slow, and there were a few mix-ups with our order. The Sunday roast was outstanding. I would recommend dining in for a enjoyable lunch experience. The cost per person was around £40–50.

We were incredibly excited to try Bath’s The Elder Restaurant during our holiday in the UK. Their story is inspiring, the ethos is exactly where we hope all restaurants go, and the reviews are consistently positive. While the service was good and the ambiance was interesting to us, the food missed the mark. We love to eat great food, especially when traveling—this meal was good, not great. Our favorite components of the tasting menu included the artichoke velouté, salted butter, and venison broth not the deer or bass, which could have been the showstoppers. When we go back, we’ll try ordering items a la cart. Outside of the food, dimmer lighting and a less scripted staff would have elevated the experience. TL;DR The overall experience and cost of the tasting menu did not add up to the total on our bill.
