I've got 2 meat plates and a sausage **** to try a little bit. Everything was really good! The bride was super juicy and the sausage was really good. I am a turkey BBQ person and the turkey had amazing taste. The sausage hammer is wrapped in bacon and has a Cheddar filled jalapeno in the middle. I'll get one of them every time I visit. We also liked all our pages, but felt the beans and Cole Slav were exceptionally good! I think it will be a hard choice every time we come here to eat. A solid 5 stars for food quality and restaurant cleanliness. Also the Pickle/Onion Bar, the beverage selection and the original or spicy BBQ sauce options are appreciated.
My husband and I considered the use of Southside BBQ for our wedding cater, but ended with them for our sample dinner instead (not because the food was not amazing, just because many weddings in TX serve BBQ). We were so happy with this decision. Our rehearsal dinner was 70 ish people, but Southside could put us in the covered terrace without any problems. We were completely separated from the rest of the dining room and had dedicated employees. We knew how incredible the food from our tasting was almost a year ago, but our guests were just amazed. It was great to introduce our families (from New Jersey, Iowa and Missouri) to a real Texas bbq. We served brisket, smoked turkeys, lamb ribs, bacon wrapped sausage, Mac n cheese, Coleslaw and potato salad. The lamb ribs were my favorite thing. We didn't have the best experience with our first catering hall (very nice, just don't react terrible) but once my husband asked to work with someone else, we had great service. Robert Wells, the catering manager) was excited to work with and even in certain beer and wine for us, outside what the restaurant usually serves. Lynda, the GM of this situation, was also fantastic and helpful. Robert brought me a apron to wear to protect my white overalls, brought tea and water pitchers I forgot to order, and took some group photos for us. Amazing food, service and experience. We will definitely eat here when we go through Bastrop again!
We were immediately greeted when we came in and the staff was very friendly. The food was super top 5 BBQ places I ate. I had the ranch hand with chopped brisket and it was a ton of food. Jalapeño Sausage and Mac and cheese were legit.
Great Texas Bar BQ came from the first market in Elgin Tx. The same building here in Bastrop, just a little more beautiful. This is classic Texas style meat, beans fixins. If you go eat meat a lot of meat. The only thing they need to work on is to dry the potato salad.
First time to visit the Bastrop location after growing up going to the Elgin location. This is location is great! The ambiance is great and the attention to detail (cleanliness) is a 5+. We met others at this location 11:00 am on Wednesday and spent the next three and a half hours catching up. The brisket is outstanding but the sausage is over the top outstanding. As good as I remember it while growing up. While there I noticed an employee that was one of the best I have ever seen. His name is Noah. Several times he came to the table and asked if there was anything he could do for us and then inquired as to how we were enjoying our meal. He was all smiles and sincere. Even though we were out of the way due to our length of stay he continued to inquire as to how we were doing. After we finished the meal and decided to purchase some additional sausage, he was more than willing to speak to the different types of sausage. He is a model employee, keep him around.
