We visit a lot of National Trust properties and usually get a snack lunch in the tea rooms at the properties. The brewhouse serves most of the regular items and dishes that available in most NT tea rooms. The staff were all friendly and helpful.
The service at this restaurant is excellent and the cakes are delicious. However, they could improve by using more local produce. It's surprising that they can't find local ingredients to use in their cafe, and even the staff seems to be unsure about this. It's disappointing that the National Trust has chosen to buy bulk products instead of supporting local producers. It's also questionable why they are serving Cadbury's hot chocolate, as it is now considered to be American and may not even be made in the UK anymore. Overall, the restaurant needs to make more of an effort to source locally and support British products.
Food and drink are always good. Staff are hardworking, friendly and helpful BUT the cramped drink preparation area means that it has ALWAYS taken a minimum of 20 minutes to get coffee. Very irritating.
This tearoom is fairly affordable, with a limited selection of cakes, etc. There are tables available both inside and outside. It would be improved with more windows, but I assume this is restricted by the building's listing.
