Was there with a group of 30 people. From my previous experience a few years ago the Baracca Zermatt was a lovely, cosy place giving its guests the impression being in a real mountain chalet. Now the place is too big with a canteen kind of atmosphere. The service was very poor and slow because there were not enough waiters available. We didn't really get what we ordered (no pork meat), a specially ordered menu was not served and when we complained there was no reaction. There was hardly ever somebody coming to the table to ask if we would like to have more meat, cheese, wine etc. We had to go and let them know. All in all a pretty disappointing experience of a place that once used to be very special.
Florentine, our waitress was incredible with perfect English. Our table was next to a log fire with settees on two sides. The place swung with laughter and cheer. We had high expectations because there should be a work function, and I specifically phoned to ask if I could bring a coop vegan fondue to not feel left out. I was told that the cook was working on a recipe. The work was cancelled because of Covid, so my husband and I went to try it. We were blown away. The texture and taste were shockingly good. We started with an orange, ginger and soup goddess. Salad as second course with delicious vegan dressing. The selection of fondues was simple, truffle and chili. It is eating everything you want and since the fondue cashew nuts based there was no saturated fat. Healthy fondue???? Go there, but book months in advance if you want a Friday or Saturday. The restaurant is only opened in winter so perfectly after skiing. The ambience is as much as a "pre ski chalet". There were large and small groups such a real mix. Two birthdays were so happy last night. A definitive yes of Daniel and me.
Our evening at the Baracca was very nice. My wife and I were seated at a table for two. Admittedly, there wasn't much free space on the table. But it was enough for my wife to still be able to place her glasses. It was a bit cozy, but also very comfortable. From the moment we arrived we were very attentively shown to our table by our waitress (even though we were 15 minutes early) and from then on we were served very well and quickly. The vegetable soup was on the table very quickly and very tasty. Since we were very hungry, that was a plus. Afterwards there was the Nüsslisalat with egg, bacon and croutons. Salad dressing wasn't too much but not too little either, just right. The size of the salad was also perfect. We both ordered the Fondue Chinoise. In our opinion, the first portion of meat was quite large and varied (there was veal, beef and pork on one platter and a separate platter with poultry) and a platter with fried potatoes and various vegetables. There was also another plate with different sauces, all of which were very tasty. What can I say, after two plates of meat, side dishes and sauces we were full and very satisfied. There was just enough room for a small dessert. All in all a great evening. The only thing I find a bit steep is 10 francs for a liter of mineral water. Nevertheless, there was a generous tip for our waitress. We will come back in any case!
My girlfriend and I spent a wonderful evening with good food, great service and a lovely atmosphere. Thank you. We'd love to come back next season.
