L'Essentiel - Barr

Disappointing experience. It was cold, food not really hot. The food was average, nothing special. Ik you are looking for more upscale try 5 terres restaurant. Friendly staff though.

L´Essentiel is a gem that we discovered by chance. We were so impressed that we ate there twice during our stay in Barr; Business lunch (a bargain for 20 € for 3 dishes) and tasting menu in the evening. The food was consistently of high quality and paired with excellent drink suggestions. Nice and friendly staff added to our experience!

Barr is a small town, on Sunday not everything is open, our hotel restaurant being closed we had th find something else. L’essentiel is nested in a quiet lane close to the center, it has a terrace but we had lunch inside. Food is really good, typical Alsacien dishes. It is good value for money. The only problem was how long we had to wait between dishes. It felt like they kitchen was understaffed. Do not go if you are in a hurry...

Discovered L’essentiel via a recommendation through a colleague that lives in Barr. Made a reservation and immediately felt that this was the right place to have a nice dinner. The chef works with daily fresh ingredients. We chose the discovery menu with accompanying wines and what followed was a 6 course meal of an exceptional class and presentation. We were not an easy group as multiple people had specific dietary restrictions and all of this was not a problem at all. The chef adapted flawlessly. Wines were very well chosen and were much appreciated by the group as well. The lady that served us was very professional, helpful and pleasant to talk with. Our next company dinner will definitely take place in this restaurant. I would highly recommend it for business dinners as well as a dinner with family or friends. Congrats again to the chef and the waitress for a lovely culinary evening in Barr !

L’Essentiel catered superbly for a wine tour party of 21 people. The quality of the food is exellent, the atmosphere friendly and convivial with attentive service from the staff. The cutlery and tablecloths were fresh and clean, the toilets well maintained and monitored closely too. Well worth a look when you are exploring Alsace or if you are celebrating a special occasion.
