Sometimes the food is not ready right when you pick it up, but it's not a big deal (they may even give you some free chips while you wait). We have been enjoying our fish and chips from this restaurant for many years.
Boobas specializes in cooking each fish to order, so it is recommended to call ahead or be prepared to wait for take-out orders. The restaurant prides itself on offering fresh and high-quality fish and chips, reflected in its premium prices. However, I have found that the cod can be wet and mushy rather than firm and chunky, after three visits. I would suggest trying Neptune's, a nearby competitor, for better fish and prices.
We have been using this restaurant for years and have always found the food both take away and eat in and the staff top notch. This is a meat free chippie, so no pies or saveloys, just freshly cooked fish. And the chips are fried in high quality groundnut oil, which gives them a better taste. Consequently, not cheap as chips, but you only get this sort of quality when you pay for it.
Upon ordering, you are served complimentary hummus and pita bread. Your large plate of fish and chips with salad is accompanied by free pickled sweet and sour cucumbers. The fish is incredibly fresh and cooked beautifully, with the option of batter or matzo meal to make it even lighter. Parking may be difficult, but there are options to park either around the corner or in the Harvester car park across the street, if space is available.
