Be sure to arrive early and line up at the booth selling beans, which come in a variety of types including green, black-eyed, butter, crowder, speckled, dixie butter, baby, and large limas, as well as black, kidney, and northern beans. The options seem endless, and we find ourselves enjoying these beans throughout the year straight from our freezer. Another highlight of the market is the mushroom vendor, who offers a range of fresh wild mushrooms as well as dishes like mushroom chile, risotto, soup, and our personal favorite: oyster mushroom fritters with feta, mesclun, and homemade hot sauce. We can't wait for April to come around so we can visit the farmer's market again.
There are a lot of delicious options for vegans at this restaurant! The falafels are especially tasty. And be careful, the pies are dangerously delicious.
Situated beneath the freeway, this market is just a brief stroll from the Inner Harbor in Baltimore. To get there, you may have to pass through a slightly questionable area (known as the red light district), but I have never encountered any issues. They offer a variety of great vegan options, such as a falafel wrap available on collards or a wheat wrap, a mushroom burrito with coconut rice and beans (just ask them to hold the eggs and cheese), a grilled portobello in a pita or on a bed of greens and quinoa, vegan pies from Dangerously Delicious, and a selection of vegan baked goods, mostly bread.
