We only had drinks here. Service at the bar was excellent. Atmosphere was fun and cozy.
I told the waitress I was allergic to canola oil when I ordered a salad tonight at Bucky 's. I was sitting around dusk at the table nearest the door, next to the guitarist who was performing. She said she would try to get olive oil instead of canola oil. When she brought out my dinner a little while later, the waitress set down a plastic container of oil to put on my salad, along with balsamic vinegar. I asked her if it was olive oil, and she assured me that it was indeed olive oil. I thanked her for the extra trouble to get olive oil instead of canola oil, which I specifically said I was allergic to. I should have smelled and tested the oil, before putting it on my salad, but I trusted her. It seemed to pour differently than olive oil onto the lettuce. But I thought I was just being paranoid. I also ended up giving her an 80 percent tip for the trouble. That was not money well spent, as it turns out, because . . . . IT WAS CANOLA OIL. THE WAITRESS WAS NOT UP FRONT. I feel very sick now from the oil. I told her I was fine just using the vinegar if olive oil was not available. Maybe the waitress didn 't know, but the kitchen staff just poured in canola oil after she requested olive oil. Or maybe she did know. Believe it or not, this is the second time that the very same thing happened to me at the Grand Hotel. The other time was Christmas dinner at Southern Roots. I asked if the tart appetizer had canola oil because the menu said drizzled in oil. The French chef came out said no, it was not canola oil.He assured me it was olive oil. WELL THAT TART WAS ABSOLUTELY DRENCHED IN CANOLA OIL. I have to think the French chef (with a thick accent) did it to spite me, given the ridiculous amount of oil on that tart. Even though I only ate half of it, I was sick for days after. What 's wrong with the restaurants at the Grand Hotel? It 's the most unhealthy upscale food in Fairhope when compared with where I usually eat, such as at Hope Farm, Char 32, Wash House, Locals, Southwood Kitchen, and Sage. I will never eat at any of the restaurants in the Grand Hotel again, ever! It is not ethical to tell a customer calloused misleading nonsense when an allergy is concerned. I am feeling very ill now, and it reminds me a lot of how I felt after I ate at Southern Roots on Christmas in 2022. By the way, canola oil (and all other seed oils for that matter) is bad for anyone. Canola oil was a tractor lubricant until the 1980 's when it was introduced into the food chain of the Western World. But it 's especially bad for me these days due to a pre-existing health condition (which started in 2020--hint, hint).
Great experience! Faith was an amazing server. Cocktails and atmosphere were also on point. Such a great spot to have in town.
Great place for late night. Drinks and food are all excellent. Staff is the best.
