Tara Lounge Carvery - Balbriggan

My husband and I were looking for somewhere in drogheda to go for lunch but the traffic was so bad into town we turned off and ended up at the City North, we are glad now we did. As it's a hotel we didn't expect the food to be great but it was absolutely delicious. My husband had the cod and chips, I had the massaman curry, both were gorgeous, we shared the large spicy wings to start which were also amazing. We also had a cappuccino and 2 Americanos. The staff were lovely, especially our server, who introduced herself as Elizabeth. It wasnt too busy so we were able to relax and enjoy the food without being rushed out the door for the table back. It was very reasonably priced for what we got. We noticed a few people having afternoon tea also, so we will definitely be back to give that a try.

The only place open and around by the time we arrived at the hotel (great room), the service was terrible, several people were served before us who arrived later. I got a pizza that looked like it was frozen and put in the microwave for 2 before serving (so why was the service so bad? There was food, a fork, on the floor near our table. The scone for breakfast was hard as a rock, don 't recommend at all. Take the ride elsewhere or stop and eat before arriving at this hotel.

We went for dinner as we were guests in the hotel and were told they couldn't cater for my daughter who has a peanut allergy! The chef and restaurant manager had no interest in trying to cater for her, the chef said it would take an hour for the ovens to heat to cook a pizza for her, when we said we would wait the hour or so he then said there's nuts been used in the kitchen. My daughter has eaten here before on a weekday and a Saturday with no issues but as it was carvery the chef just wasn't bothered. We left the restaurant and asked the receptionist for a takeaway that we could ring and she told us to go on just eat and find one.

Food is fab here plenty of choice on the menu something for everyone reasonable prices staff are lovely great atmosphere

Our meals here were quite good— the chicken at dinner was moist and had a wonderful wine sauce— very good. The Hale was also tasty and well presented! Breakfast was a large selection of varied and good food— hoy and cold!
