I stayed in Hallstatt for three nights and ate here every evening and tried all the menu! : all the food was gorgeous but my favourite was the locally caught fish and the kaiserschmarnn which came with apple sauce instead of the usual plum the...view of the lake and the swans whilst eating your meal is simply idilic : the staff are super friendly and polite : the Evening menu which I ate from starts at 5.30 I went around this time and didn’t have to queue but I think If you arrive later you might have to queue but it’s work the wait :
Visiting Hallstatt with my family we wanted to have lunch and enjoy the beautiful view. We got the attention of a femail waiter who told us to go to a certain table where an elderly couple were leaving. On our way to the table the family (my children 6 and 8 ) obviously got in the way of another waiter (male) who was very rude and didn't try to hide his anger. When we reached the table, and were about to sit there, the third waiter arrived (male) and said that we couldn't sit there, as it was supposed to be for another guests. He was terrible rude and didn't care that we had been told to sit there. On our way out I talked to the first waiter, and she acted as she knew nothing! - Avoid if possible. Rude waiters and no patience for children!!!
When we were in Hallstatt a few years ago, this restaurant had a dish with the most amazing horseradish stuffing. I couldn't wait to return.Arriving in Hallstatt this trip with my wife and kids, we dropped off our luggage and headed to the Braugasthof. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the horseradish stuffing dish on the menu!Still, we had a delicious lunch. The local fish was yummy and crispy, but the lemon sauce was a bit enthusiastically applied. We went again a few days later, and I scoured the menu for the dish I was looking for. The closest I could find was a beef dish with a creamy stuffing, and grated horseradish that you had to mix in as needed. It was very good, but not what I remembered. The one dish I recommend against was the "sweet cheesecake", which was neither a cheesecake nor sweet. Perhaps it doesn't translate into English well? It was more of a warm egg custard that nobody enjoyed. The service is fast but friendly. When they're busy, they're trying to get everyone in and out pretty quickly, which is fine for us.The tables by the lake are excellent for the view, and for enjoying the swans and ducks paddling along the shore.
We had nice austrian food, schnitzel, wurst, sauerkraut. But the view next to the See is amazing! it´s really worth seating there and enjoy the wonderful view!
