Old Village Tavern - Ayia Napa

It’s such a beautiful restaurant with lovely food. We had the king prawns flambe and the chicken kebab and both were delicious and in great portions. The staff was also really nice and the atmosphere was very cozy and positive.

This place is just disgusting! It’s definitely a tourist trap! We ordered 2 fish meze for 70€! and two meat meze for 48€! with 4 people. Nobody of us liked the food, so we asked for the manager but he didn’t really listen and he just said that they have their place since 30 years and they never had a complaint before. We kindly asked for a solution but he just repeated all the time, I don’t accept your complaint, the food is perfect and he just left the table, ignoring us. So we started a conversation with our neighbor table to asked other guests how they like their food. As soon as the staff recognized that, they came back to our table and interrupted our nice conversation with our neighbors and forbid us to talk to other guests cause they were afraid that other guests will also complain, they started to be very aggressive against us. So we’re feeling totally uncomfortable and our ladies got scared and we decided to leave that place immediately. We put half of the bill in cash on the table and was about to leave, but one of the waiters just blocked the exit and was pushing us back. We told them several times that they shouldn’t touch us but they became more and more aggressive and more staff appeared to stop us of from leaving. They were about to start a fight with us and forced us to pay the full amount, which we did when the chef came because he’s absolutely perfect in threaten people to scare them. Actually it felt like they had that kind of situations a lot of times before and they knew how to handle that situations in their favor.

I booked a table through Google Messages, and the process was quick and easy. One of the highlights of my dining experience was the live music that accompanies dinner every day except Sundays. It added a lively and enjoyable atmosphere to the evening. The menu was extensive, offering a wide variety of options to choose from. The portion sizes were plentiful, and the prices were very reasonable, providing excellent value for money. There were a few minor drawbacks. Hence, I would rate the restaurant 4 stars instead of 5. The rice was not up to par, a bit undercooked. One of the pita breads was completely dry, which affected the overall enjoyment of the dish. Furthermore, the chips were a bit on the oily side. The beer was not super cold, so we only had one bottle. Another downside, people are allowed to smoke (pretty much everywhere in Cyprus), which for me wasn't pleasing at all.

I have no idea how this place has 4,6 from more then 1000 reviews. We took the seafood platter and all the seafood was tasting old, we went quite afraid of eating the fish as it was very strange the taste. The staff is actually great, as well the ambience. Only problem was the seafood quality.

My wife Netty and I were here on Friday May 19th. of this year. We made a reservation in advance, because of the fact that there is live music every friday and saturday. The restaurant looks great on the outside as well as in the inside, the looks of a real authentic tavern. The staff is super friendly and quick, the food and the wine were great. The live music, starting at 6 p.m., was taken care of by a two men band, They made the evening extra great. We enjoyed ourselves so much, that we made a new reservation for the next day, saturday 20th. We sincerely recommand a visit to this magnificent restaurant. You will not regret!
