Several people advised me to go to the wood's during my passage to ayer's cliff. and what a good idea! the welcome was courteous and what to say of the wood poutine with its green pepper sauce! I also ate a cheeseburger, which was just as delicious!
I was a regular of the wood's I'm going lately I ordered a small poutine and a mini wood's I found a hair in each of them! I asked for another one and found a hair in my second bug so I just stopped eating! It was horrible!
We actually heard about Wood's Snack Bar from the passport control official when we (and our bicycles) drove from Vermont into Quebec to ride on the Tomofobia Nature Trail, a fantastic 12.5 mile rail trail along a sparkling river from Stanstead to Ayer's Cliff. When my husband got a flat tire and decided to walk back to the car while I continued on, we agreed to meet up at Wood's. It was easy to find because it was literally right at the end of the ride and in the center of the village. There was lots of outdoor seating (and lots of bicycles!) Food was about what you'd expect -- burgers, fries, poutine, lots of ice cream of various kinds, greasy and filling and sweet, just right for hungry cyclists. (No, it's not a foodie destination -- it's a friendly cyclist re-fueling station, as well as a family restaurant.) The right place at the right time.
There are allot of casse croutte snack bars around but this place puts a great twist on the classics. Try their big woods burger with special sauce or the woods poutine which comes with great gravy and peppercorns.
