Caffe Dell'orologio - AVOLA

Paid 12€ for 2 glasses of white wine while we paid 2€ !!!!!!!!!! on the other side of the main square... Highly overpriced just because we’re tourists I guess. And cannot pay by card so beware to take cash with you. Servizio 20% even though we ordered at the bar and they asked to sit down and wait outside. Not cool, not cool.

What could be better than sitting in sunny Avola's principal square drinking good coffee accompanied by cannolo ricotta. Weather permitting of course, that's all possible at Cafè dell'Orologio. Lovely spot and good service (20% service charge outside).

Wonderful coffee and even better ice-cream. Great staff and atmosphere. The best place for a gathering with friends.

We decide do stop for a quick ice granita and to have some fresh drink on a sunny hot day of July. No one offer to arrange a table for us, party of 5 people so we had to move the seats around a small table, they didn't even think to suggest or offer better arrangement. Our first request was for some cold water but they told us they don't have any cold water, the waiter offer to bring us some glasses with ice that never show during our stay, water was like a soup. The granita was quite good and also the brioche. When we paid we told one of the item we ordered was missing but the guy initially didn't want to believe us as he said he personally prepared the food for the service. I'm sure (and I hope) there are better bars and place to stop in Avola.

Avola is my hometown, so I 've been here quite a few times. The service depends on how you are dressed and the mood of the waiter. For example, I use to go there with friends every once in a while because it 's very central and very sunny(if you are sitting outside), in these occasions the waiters are more or less all cooperative, but then I went there again still dressed in my workclothes and with a few colleagues in the same attire(housepainters), and it was appaling. Ok, I understand you want to be a snob place, but my money is as good as the next guy with a Fred Perry polo. The waiters almost didn 't see us and when they did they where so rude i almost felt as if I 'd done something wrong. I 've been to quite a few countries, visited my share of bars, sometimes dressed well , other times much less, but I 'd never felt like this before. I 'm not saying all the waiters here are a bunch of ogres, but most of them have no idea of what manners are. Another problem is that they rarely clean the tables, and if you have outdoor service and it 's the summertime, this means you want to feed the pidgeons. Since clearing tables often is apparently one of the parts of the book they skipped, customers usually end up clearing them themselves by putting everything from the past customer in the nearest empty table. So it ends up that while you are having granita with some friends who are visiting Sicily for the first time, a bunch of feathery rats banzais on the next table and sometimes even on yours. Guys, seriously??? Apart from this, prices are ok, the coffee is definitely not the best in town but the pastry is more than fine. Could be salvaged.
