Came herenfor lunch based on hotel recommendations. Restaurant was somewhat packed for lunch, but we were able to get a table without reservations. We had the special of the day, which consisted of soup, fried fish, vegetables, and seafood rice and espresso at the end. Everything was great and amazing. Since I don't drink espresso, I requested a cappuccino and was charged for it, which was fine. Definitely recommend going there as service was excellent as well.
Rude reception, period. Imposible to understand how one can own/run a restaurant and be so abrasive to customers !!! Totally unacceptable and inexcusable!!! Shame on you Maré Cheia . Estupidos mesmo . Não voltaremos ...
Just looking at the photos make my mouth waters again! This restaurant is just a short walk from the canal, not too hard to find. They don't have an English menu, but our waiter speaks good English. Apparently he spent his childhood watching American movies. He was very friendly and patient, took us to their display case where he pointed to the menu item then the fish/shellfish, so we are able to figure out what to order. He also gave us tips on places to visit around the area. We were curious to try the barnacles, but unfortunately it was not in season. Apparently the fishermen have to dive into the sea to collect them, and if the water is cloudy or wavy they won't be able to harvest the barnacles. Highly recommend the tiger prawns. Like the best seafood, simply prepared but heavenly delicious.
This place is a gem; it's a place you can walk pasted and not know what you're missing. We wanted fresh fish, and we heard from the locals this was the place to be. As you walk to your right, you see a massive fresh fish lined up on ice, waiting for an owner to claim them. I ordered the Tiger prawns in garlic, not the best. It's in a red sauce with a mild fishy taste but once added some fresh lemon juice, it helped mask the fishy taste; all in all, it wasn't my favorite. The grouper was unbelievably delicious, with beautiful grill marks on both sides of the fish. A bowl of olives to start with cold bread with a side of cold butter. Everyone knows I'm a warm bread and butter girl! The grouper accompanied a soupy rice dish, and it was delicious. All in all, this place was lovely; the food was mediocre. Hopefully, next time, we'll try something else.
