They also were very VERY unfriendly... from as soon as I walked in the door. And they were not busy... only 3 tables sitting down and no queue for coffees...Well... Got a cup of hot milk... with a hint of coffee flavour. No matter... maybe just ask for an extra shot? How dare you! 2 girls behind the counter were not impressed when my partner asked if he could get another shot... he was charged for an extra shot (which he expected and was willing to pay just to avoid upsetting anyone) and then instead of putting another fresh shot into the coffee they threw in a shot that was already sitting in another cup!?! Very rude and seemed to be personally offended by someone asking for a stronger coffee because, well... obviously they don't realise what a flat white looks like... but when it's just white then it's a pretty good sign that it's lacking in actual coffee.I have worked in hospitality... I know what it's like. And I'm always polite and friendly... all I can say from this experience is that the staff do not care about the customers (I smile can go a long way) and certainly do not care about the establishment. Can't comment on the food... but I won't be going back to try any that's for sure.Avoid!
They have great coffees and great foods. Location is at main street where the school and shops are. And very close to the beach too. Staffs are very friendly too.
I dropped in late morning to Small Town for an early lunch or late breakfast - and after looking at the menu decided on Eggs Benedict with Spinach. My coffee was brought out quickly and the staff were / are friendly. My eggs Benedict were also quickly in front of me and I was ready to go. They looked great and apart from a slightly soggy English muffin base, tasted good. On the Main Street in Avalon Small Town is a good and reliable place to stop for an informal meal. Very enjoyable. Oh - and the coffee is GREAT !!
We have had breakfast and lunch here a few times now, usually on the spur of the moment. Unlike many menus where you look for a dish that sounds right, Small Town have a menu where EVERY dish is a temptation. And they succeed - every dish we have tried has been really good wholesome food.Highly recommended.
Where do I start... my mum, myself and my 1 year old decided to have a nice brunch out. Well we certainly chose the wrong cafe. Firstly, the girl behind the coffee machine was horribly rude when I asked where the high chair was (by the way, don't use the high chair it's dangerously unsafe). We ordered two coffees, a smoothie, fig & raisin toast and an acai bowl. After 20 mins our coffees were dumped on the table by a man I'm guessing was the owner. No sign of the smoothie. That turned up after 30 mins. Another 10 mins went by and there was no sign of our food. My toddler had lost her patience and so had we. We asked if our SIMPLE breakfast order would be far away (40 mins, really?!!?) and 5 mins later our food was delivered. Well. It certainly wasn't worth the wait. The fig and raisin toast was cold. With a small pot of honey and THREE BLUEBERRIES. My acai bowl was bland, watery and I had one spoonful and that was enough for me. The owner came over when we said we were leaving and said "sorry we've had a bad morning" there was no offer of compensation for the revolting food we hadn't touched let alone waited 45 mins for and we walked out. There are so many great cafes in Avalon but this is certainly not one of them.
